Magic: Introduction

Jordfold was once fertile with magic, but after the Disobedience two and a half thousand years ago, its presence was greatly diminished. In the present day, many races have become suspicious and afraid of its use and the people who use it. Some cultures are more open and see magic users as a boon, others treat them with extreme prejudice and open hostility. The races of men are notably the most guarded against its use and its practitioners, however there are many exceptions. 
Only a very small percentage of the population have some magical ability and some Mölds have higher numbers than others. It is unknown whether people born with these abilities are given them at random or if they were granted them for a reason. There are other strange phenomena, not necessarily magic, but some sort of dormant 'power' in many intelligent beings. Some examples include clairvoyance and even what some called 'telepathy'.
The degree to how great these abilities are largely depends on the individual. Channeling them requires a great deal of focus on yourself and blocking out intrusive thoughts and your surroundings, a task that even the most experienced practitioners struggle with. Undergoing this process is said to make you more open to extraordinary possibilities. Unfortunately, it is easy to sabotage your own efforts with self-doubt or cynicism.

Whence it came 

Ages ago, before the planets and stars were created, the Veil of Arasonë separated the material world from the divine realm of the ancient Aradnë. This ethereal fabric was woven by Mes:aliätha'sur to create the Iudere, our Universe. The veil itself was the source of the Aradnë's godlike powers and it left traces of that power in the stars and planets it was used to create. Because Gondwara was created in a unified effort by Aliätha's children, it is home to the greatest concentration of this power in the Iudere.
Some of the gods wanted their creations to be endowed with the same powers, so they created hundreds of great 'vents' all over Jordfold where the divine source was breathed into the air. Long term exposure to the source led to rise of mortals being born with magical aura, however over the millennia, the vents slowly exhausted their supplies and many now lie dormant.
