Djinn

"Cunning, greedy, and highly dignified, the Djinn are a mysterious species of elemental beings, with vast magical abilities. They value treasure, possessions, and power over almost all else, and often kidnap humanoids to serve them."

Basic Information

Anatomy

Djinni take on many different forms, though their humanoid form is usually most common. They have corresponding skin tones to their elemental prowess, and their phenotype is stereotypical of a chubby, jolly nobleman who has always had more than enough to eat.

Biological Traits

Djinni are typically genderless humanoid beings with potent elemental abilities. Their forms resemble chubby noblemen that sit in a lap of luxury, and they often take on facial traits of the surrounding population to appear more appealing.

Genetics and Reproduction

Originally, Djinni are borne out of the Elemental Plane. Some of them descend from that plane down to Tu'ril, seeking power and conquest. Though there are no known Djinni currently residing in Nobliya, rumors circulate that they may take interest in the country due to its current civil unrest.

Growth Rate & Stages

Djinni are borne out of the Elemental Plane fully formed, as far as we know. The prominent Djinni that have come to live on the Material Plane take such questions about their pasts as an insult.

Ecology and Habitats

Djinni prefer to claim ruined or abandoned palaces on the Material Plane, if they come to this plane at all. In their respective Elemental Plane, they can often use their powers to erect their own lavish palaces.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Djinni are a very solitary folk. As such, they are often at the top of their own social hierarchy, putting mortal beings below them.

Facial characteristics

The facial characteristics of Djinni depend on their environment, as well as their spiritual origins. Their forms are created out of fusion between spirit force and elemental magic, after all.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Currently, a powerful Earth Djinn leads the continent of Tophland, and a prominet Fire Djinn lives in the deep center of Sakrentos, ruling his own cult. This Djinn is also responsible for a sudden uptick in Fire Genasiin Tu'ril as a whole.

Average Intelligence

Djinni are extremely cunning and overall intelligent. They have to be, to sway so many worshippers and slaves under their rule.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Djinni wield the powers of the elements in their magic, as well as an occasional ability to grant wishes or shapeshift. Depends on the strength of that particular Djinn.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Djinni often call themselves after names or words in Primordial, often adding extravagant titles after it relating to their powers. For instance, the ruler of Tophland refers to herself as "Thamreal the Stoneshaker".

Major Organizations

The Republic of Tophland is really the only "official" organization, along with the rather small fanatic gathering of one Fire Djinn's followers in Sakrentos.

Beauty Ideals

If luxury and beauty is a sign of wealth and power, then the Djinni will take it.

Gender Ideals

Who cares, you're Primordial. Most Djinni think that their wealth and power is a better display of their identity than anything gender-related. There are a few that appreciate that kind of nuanced representation of themselves, though they are few and far between and nearly all of them are those that live on the Material Plane.

Courtship Ideals

Djinni do not court other Djinni, it's not in their blood. They can often find themselves in a relationship with a mortal, siring Genasi children with them. However, they very rarely raise their hybrid children, leaving that task to their partner.   When a Djinn truly loves a mortal being, they will court them with a great many gifts and often will create artwork in their image. It is really their only true love language. Fire Djinni burn beautiful pictures into the landscape, Earth Djinni move mountains to display a spring sunset to their object of affection, Water Djinni will craft gorgeous ice sculptures in the image of their lover, and Air Djinni will skywrite sweet nothings for them to read. It's all very grandiose, and is likely why most of the individuals a Djinn will court are of the social standing that would appreciate such grandiose acts of love.

Relationship Ideals

Djinni seek relationships that are mostly... performative, unfortunately. Mortals in places of power, from royalty to pirate captains. Oftentimes, they see it as just another symbol of their fabulous lifestyle. The few Djinni that pursue love for love's sake are often seen as strange by the rest of their kind, and often shunned. But both exist, and both are still rather pleasant relationships.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

The Djinni are able to communicate through Primordial, the elemental language. Air Djinni speak Aeran, Water speak Aquan, and so on.

Common Etiquette Rules

Djinni are rather loose followers of the rules of hospitality. Most of them only follow it if their guest treats them poorly, and not the other way around.

History

Djinni first made their appearance in the year 200 AGB, once the heat had died down from Great Bones' defeat. For a while they remained in the Elemental Plane, building their own lavish palaces and enslaving the many elementals that called that plane home. Once things had calmed down in Tu'ril, they started exploring their options there. By now, the people of Tu'ril know of the Djinni's purpose and their motivations. Hell, an Earth Djinn is the ruler of a whole continent!
