Vorchrest, Castle of the Sky

Above a raging maelstrom, in between islands held aloft by magic as ancient as memory it's self flies Vorchrest, the Castle in the Sky. Home to Mer'gir Telivv, Emperor Supreme of all dragonborn and his lineage. It's towers pierce the ever present cloud cover above and it's walls stand like long jagged blade edges, repelling all who would think themselves capable of harming the many keeps within. Constructed by magical means by a legion of arcanists in ages long past, the castle's shapes flow and curve in ways unconcievable by regular craftsmen. The dark stone seemingly welded at the seams bears no moss, no scratch of time or blemish of combat. Lightning bolts strike the many steel tipped roofs of the towers with frightening regularity, bathing the unnatural stone formation in eerie blue light and causing many an unfamiliar observer to doubt if the castle is truly solid and not some wavering shadow aberration. Even though it's size and ominous appearance may cause discomfort for any unfamiliar with the center of dragonborn society, the dragonborn themselves seem quite comfortable with the centrepiece of their great city. At times of revelry the populous is invited to decorate the outer walls with imagery from legend and tradition for everyone knew, this art would be gone in mere days due to the magic of the walls and make place for new more impressive creations. The inside of the castle, was another wonder on to it's self. The thick looking outer walls make place for delicate arches, mind bendingly thin inner structures and vast yellow tinted windows that allow what little sunlight pierces through the cloud cover to light the rooms within with a pleasant warm hue. Everburning fires warm every nook of the many keeps and buildings housed within the confines of the outer wall. The interior decoration of Vorchrest has always been up to the discretion of the monarch and somewhat of a royal pastime as the current emperor has taken it upon himself to recruit arcanists to add to the already dizzying impossibility of this place. Torches float along the walls of the many corridors, lighting the way and following any who passes through them. Shifting furniture that suits the needs of the person residing in a room. And a vast collection of art and treasure that seems to always find it's own place best suited to most impress whomever may observe. A place of true magic and wonder, Vorchrest stands as a wonder of the world only few outsiders ever get to see and always leaves a mark, even on those who have lived under it their entire lives.

Purpose / Function

Serving as the home and centrepiece for dragonborn rule and society, Vorchrest has been and always will be the symbol to which all who live under her will gather in time of need.
