The Carsowar Myth in Life Under Four Suns | World Anvil

The Carsowar

It was too long ago, maybe five lifetimes for you, Munan. The first pirates and brigands took to the stars in simple vessels. But then we discovered the First Born ruins, and the first of their artefacts. With it we could travel further, faster, longer. It was called the Carsowar.
A First Born artefact discovered during the early dawns of space exploration in the Mizar System. Found on the Tarunian moon of Isgal, the artefact provided early ship builders with knowledge to improve their designs for better space flight.

Stolen Knowledge

Sometime during the First System War, the Altunain shipbuilders possessed the Carsowar and had been delving into it's deeper secrets when Erus was attacked by a mercenary crew. The crew of the ill-fated Star Hound were tracked across the system, effectively putting a hold on the war for twenty-five cycles. By the time various teams had found the Star Hound in the Poneeian Belt, disaster had already struck.

Fifteen Dead Men

The Star Hounds crew was found dead, strewn about their hideout on P-AS-76b3. Multiple teams from across the system analysed the scene and found what appeared to be a series of incidents of foul play amongst the crew. Most notable was the accountability of all weapons in the hideout with the various wounds suffered. Unfortunately for the future of ship building, only the Carsowars case was found. The knowledge of the First Born was lost, with no obvious signs as to it's location or who had taken it from the Star Hound's after their deaths.

A Traditional Song

The loss of the Carsowar and the fate of the Star Hound is regularly tied together in the traditional pirate tale-song Fifteen Men. The song outlines the apparent series of events that lead to each members gruesome death by another member of the crew, and ends with the only line that changes across cultures:
And what did happen to that known treasure? Only the derogatory term for another species know for sure!

'Only the [derogatory term for another species] know for sure!' Ahh, so true to life.   Really interesting myth! I wonder what really happened to it.
