Government

The High Mage, advised by their council, mediates all internal disputes and oversees defensive forces.   Laws are enforced by the Silverwatch police force.

Defences

The Spellguard currently consists of 32 mages, 7 of which are warders (officers). They eagerly provide support to the other units.   The High Guard protects the High Palace and the Star Court.   The Knights in Silver are a chivalrous order of about 700. They guard the walls of Silverymoon, and consistently patrol around the city in a 50-mile range.   The Silverwatch are the local police force and other first-responders. They are less than a couple hundred in number, but they are well supported by the Spellguard and Moonguard.   The Moonguard are the local men-at-arms. In peacetime a couple hundred lightly assist the Knights in Silver and the Silverwatch; their numbers swell in times of strife.

Industry & Trade

Silverymoon imports food, armor, weapons, footwear, textiles and clothing.   Silverymoon exports books, paper, furniture, herbs, inks, glass, glassware, furs, timber, valuable ores.

History

A thousand years ago, explorers constructed a rope bridge over the River Rauvin. Generations passed as a settlement grew around this crossing. Lord Argynvost was the first noble to bring prosperity to the region, and his mages constructed the Moonbridge at the site. In the years since, the frontier trading town has grown into an important bastion of strength in the North, and as such joined The Lords' Alliance. Orc hoards descending from the northern Savage Lands has always been a concern, so the strength of Silverymoon is of particular interest to not only the Human's Lords' Alliance, but also the Elves of the High Forest, and perhaps even the Dwarfs.   Fifty years ago, Silverymoon was protected from the Cataclysm. @Sundabar requested aid from the Lord's Alliance, but only Silverymoon responded, and the aid was egregiously insufficient. Most Dwarves in the region continue to harbor resentment towards the Humans, only trading and otherwise civically engaging with Silverymoon.

Architecture

The city has an interesting blend of influences, drawing from Dwarfish engineering, Elvish elegance, and Human urgency. Stone is widely used, but plants grow on or through most construction. One could become lost among the trees of this city. In spite of that, the city is planned efficiently, with spacious thoroughfares around the gates, warehouses, and docks.   As a trading town, there are many temporary structures such as docks, market stalls, and warehouses. These simple structures are quickly and crudely constructed, and frequently deconstructed when they are no longer needed.

Geography

Silverymoon straddles the River Rauvin, resting in a large valley between the mountains of the Silver Veil.   To the west lies the lowlands, the River Rauvin winds leisurely through the Silver Marches.   Barovia is about 50 miles north of Silverymoon.   Silverymoon Pass guides merchants through the mountains east towards Sundabar. The River Rauvin transitions into impassable cataracts at this point.   The southern edge of Silverymoon's realm approaches the Elvish High Forest.
