The ruins are covered in powerful illusion magic that prevent the average user from seeing anything beyond the ruins of Raven Roost. Only those who have previous been inside the illusion can enter it and see the Shadar-Kai base that has been set up in Raven Roost (a form of a modified Mordenkainen's Magnificent Mansion).

History

This castle used to stand atop the mountains of Shadowfell as the home of the Raven Queen. From there her ravens could return to her and tell her stories of what was happening across Shadowfell. After her defeat at the hands of Mask, he destroyed the castle and left it in ruins. However the Shadar-Kai took over the ruins and now it use it as their main base of operations. From their they direct their operatives in the field and plan the overthrow of Mask. Additionally the ruins hold in their depth a Sanctum where they can commune with the Raven Queen, but only those who she deems worthy can enter the Sanctum and speak with her.
