Beo Hornhelm
Beo Hornhelm (Storm Herald Barbarian 15, Tempest Cleric 5) is one of the Heroes of Leysaria. Joining the party after one of their adventures in Doriessa, Beo is a mostly illiterate Minotaur who spent the first portion of his life as a witch hunter. During his time as a mage slayer, one of his quarries addled his mind and cast an illusion into it. Believing that he was finally within striking distance of his target, Beo lashed out and struck down the warlock. However, as the illusion faded it was revealed that he had actually killed his wife and young child. Beo buried them and in mourning prepared for a new chapter.
Beo accompanied the Heroes of Leysaria on many adventures and has since slain many notable mages including Gadrielle (one third of the SoulSplit Silf'Karra). After landing the killing blow he also struck her body with his axe again and fell to her poisonous blood, causing the devil Azazel to intervene in the party's fortunes.
As the party's adventures took them through Leysaria and eventually to the mainland beyond, Beo felt growing affinity for the halfling Bard Tone Payne. Tone and Beo became fast friends, and in battle were quite the pair. Beo helped Tone traverse many a perilous passageway, and Tone was always there to catch Beo with Feather Fall in case one of his schemes went sideways.
Beo's affinity for the sea began to make itself apparent as the party traversed greater Leysaria. In Hellena, he met a large contingent of his family (the Hornhelms) and built a strong rapport with them regardless of the fact that he didn't remember them from his youth. After defeating the devil Captain Mavis and breaking her bond with the Material Plane, Beo was able to take up the captaincy of Carl, Mavis's animated ship.
As Captain of Carl, Beo took the ship wherever the band of adventurers needed to go, traveling as far as Varral in the south and returning to Leysaria from time to time. On one of the adventures, the heroes made their way to Afador, the Land of the Giants. There, the heroes met Abdal the Gamemaster (though he was disguised as a commoner) and Abdal invited the heroes to play some games with him. In one of these games, the party was able to free a Dwarven Thrower from a large statue's stony grip and Beo took up Vattidos as his favored weapon.
While they were out on the high seas, Beo met another side of his family: the Brinehearts. These seafaring Minotaurs pledge their fealty to the Norse god Njord, and Beo has been vacillating between Poseidon and Njord as he sorts out where his allegiance lies. Poseidon has thus far received most of Beo's attention, though his help has not always been quick to come.
