The Healer Aythe

Aythe the Healer was once an Irrendsknecht, a mercenary from Marraberg who fought on behalf of its cities, taking the place of their citizens in a city's levy commitments. She spent years among the western companies, and has fought in many wars, from the small-scale border conflicts that are always happening somewhere, to all out wars between nations. She was good at what she did, but never able to fit in with the mercenaries, moving from one to the other with each new job or sometimes simply being by herself. The life of a mercenary is hard and brutal, and Aythe takes little pride in her actions of the time and the cruelties she was part of.
Aythe grew tired of the wars, but Irrendsknecht have poor reputations and communities do not receive them with open arms, especially Aythe, who had always seemed to have trouble getting along with people however she tried. Her attempts to find a small, out-of-the-way community where she could find some peace were always met with hostility, and where she wasn't actually expelled it was made clear that she was unwelcome. Aythe spent two years drifting between villages and towns, moving on before the people around her became hostile and finding work where it could be found.
Eventually, Aythe met a witch. While passing through the village of Tusey she had taken sick, and was in a terrible state when some kind villager brought an elderly woman to see her. The woman, she was told, was a witch, whose magics could heal her sickness. Aythe did not trust the strange woman, for she knew the tales of witch's curses and potions they brewed that could poison wells and livestock, but she was so ill that she decided to accept her help and damn the consequences.
The old woman kept checking on her as Aythe recovered, until she was better. Aythe came to distrust the witch less and the old woman seemed to see something of interest in her. When she offered Aythe the chance to learn her art, Aythe found herself accepting. The next ten years of her life, she was the apprentice of this strange witch, learning the arts of magical healing, and of the second sight, and the many other secret arts of witches. As her experience grew, she would travel further afield to visit those in need of help, while her mentor - too infirm to travel far - remained in her secluded cottage outwith Tusey. Eventually, the witch pronounced Aythe's training complete, with little ceremony,
Today, Aythe uses her magic to help the sick and injured, a wandering traveller who moves between the villages of the Belfimbre Plateau. While the region is rarely involved in external wars, conflicts within it do happen and Aythe is known for healing the wounded in these times, with more than one knight in the area owing their life to her. She is known to most of the larger communities there, who have become used to her enough that she is welcomed for a while. Still, even now she finds herself unwelcome if she stays in one place too long, and rumors of misdeeds and curses cast are quick to arise around her.
She does not share the details of her past life, or speak much of herself at all really. Aythe has found her peace in helping those who need it, and though it brings her little reward, she is content.

Note Aythe, though she does not know it nor understand what it is, has The Gift. It's supernatural influence on others is why she is not trusted, and contantly moves between communities.
