James was born in Scotland and moved to North America when he was 10 (shortly after pairing with his familiar, Ramsay). At age 16, he was involved in a car accident which cost him his legs. His parents also split around the same time. After graduating high school he moves to The Metropolis where he works for his paternal aunt who runs a chain of Chinese medicine and magical supplies kiosks/shops. He eventually incorporated herb dealing on the side in addition to services such as cleansing ghosts, making specialty charms, and other services that may require the service of a witch.
