Personal history

Hyacinth was born in Alsace to human parents, who named him Henri. The proximity of the war ensured that they had little resources, and although the family loved each other, poverty and social unrest made life difficult. When he was twelve, the Empire overtook his region, and the humans were relocated within its boundaries. His parents were deemed too old to be assimilated and sent to farm staple crops to feed the human populace, but Hyacinth, only twelve and extremely polite, was conditioned to understand the conduct and beliefs of servants. This meant, among other injustices, being deprived of his name. When the emperor and his husband arrived to help their son choose a human, Lemuel was immediately drawn to the honey-scented young man with a soft accent. He named him Hyacinth, after the lover of Apollon.
