Palace of Courts
The Palace of Courts houses the judicial branch of the Leland Confederacy.
Purpose
As the courthouse for the confederacy, the Palace serves as the place where all legal and judicial matters take place. This includes the business of the seven confederate courts and the Council of High Inquisitors.Layout
The building consists of a central domed atrium with seven wings extending from it. The main level atrium serves as the lobby for the building and holds various statues and historical displays for visitors to look at. Access to general administration can be found on this level, including court assignments, limited archives, and building tours. Below the atrium is the Hall of the High Inquisitors where the Council of High Inquisitors presides over the highest court in the land. The central basement has facilities to temporarily hold those awaiting trial and execute certain types of punishments. Some of these facilities have been deemed torture chambers in recent history and have seen less use with the progression of society. Each of the wings houses one of the seven confederate courts of Leland. The wings extended from the central point in the direction of the province they represent and consist of offices, meeting spaces, smaller courtrooms, and a larger courtroom for proceedings overseen by the High Inquisitor. While the wings were initially constructed with the same layouts, provinces have remodeled the wings to meet the needs of the people and decorated them in a style reflective of the particular province. The building is surrounded by a walled garden which is open to the public.Tourism
While most visitors to the Palace of Courts are there for legal reasons, the Palace is considered a point of interest for those visiting Deamei City. Tours are offered and the gardens are a nice place for a picnic lunch.
