Tripathi Institute
The Tripathi Institute is the most prestigious hospital in the city of Kamesh. The institute treats most types of illnesses, but it specializes in surgery, amputations, and mechanical prosthetic replacements.
The Tripathi Institute is located in the city's Second District, which is normally reserved for the homes of wealthy citizens. This gives the hospital a grander and more serene atmosphere than the plain hospitals of the Third District or the overcrowded and underfunded medical buildings of the Seventh.
Treatment at the institute tends to be expensive, especially when the patient requires a delicate operation or a prosthetic limb. However, the Tripathi Institute's excellent reputation as a medical hospital is well deserved, and for some the assurance of safety and quality is worth the enormous expense.
The hospital also receives a number of healthy clients who are looking for custom prostheses models. Most prostheses used by the institute are bought in large quantities from outside manufacturers, but for a larger fee the hospital will provide unique altered variations personally built by their resident head engineer.
Architecture
The building was once a grand manor house that was home to generations of nobles. Much of the institute is built from marble, white brick, and imported wood in the old fashioned style common to Jirian manors.
The institute consists of a walled compound with the main converted hospital building at the center. The grounds are covered in carefully tended lawns and gardens where patients can visit. There are also a few smaller buildings around the grounds, including a storage building that has been converted into a workshop for Lord Zarina Tripathi.
History
The institute was once the hereditary family home of the Tripathi nobles. Although they were once an exceptionally wealthy household, the family wealth had gradually dwindled away until almost nothing but the house remained. Realizing that they could no longer rely on their hereditary wealth, the heirs Lord Mala and Lord Zarina decided to go into buisiness together and repurpose the old house into a hospital.
Mala Tripathi used what was left of their fortune to complete her medical studies. After her graduation, she and her cousin opened the Tripathi Institute together and have continued to run the hospital ever since.
Esteemed Doctor Mala Tripathi is the head doctor and face of the institute. Although she co-owns the business with her cousin, she is often mistakenly assumed to be its sole owner because of Lord Tripathi's reclusive personality.
Esteemed Doctor Tripathi specializes in heart surgery. The institute employs a large staff of trained doctors and nurses, but she will often perform the most delicate operations herself.
Her title of Esteemed Doctor is a combination of her hereditary noble title and her degree as a licensed medical practitioner.
She is the institute's head engineer who designs custom prosthetic limbs for clients. She also manages much of the accounting and business deals with prostheses manufacturers.
Because of her severe social anxiety, Lord Tripathi conducts all of her correspondences through letters rather than over the phone or in person. She often takes walks around the institute gardens, but otherwise rarely appears in public.
