Serpentine Mountains

The Serpentine Mountains are a frozen mountain range that stretches across Quentoria. The peaks are often said to be the coldest places in the world, and only the most determined survivors have managed to claim a place amid the eternal ice.

The range was named both for the winding pattern of mountains across the continent and for the pyromancer legend that speaks of its creation by the three divine Serpents.

Geography

The twisting mountain range is made up of towering peaks and deep valleys. The rocky landscape is covered in snow and ice year round, and bits of greenery only make an appearance at the very base of the mountains. The winding cliffs are infamously difficult to traverse, and even those familiar with the territory are careful to watch their step.

Fauna & Flora

Despite the regions harsh climate, a few species of plants and animals have managed to scratch out a living.

Those who look hard enough can find lichens and mosses hiding in the cracks of rocks. Spruce trees and small shrubs grow in the valleys between mountains, giving shelter to a variety of small animals such as ptarmigans, hares, and lemmings. The frozen landscape is also home to larger predators such as foxes, weasels, wolves, and snowy owls.

Natural Resources

Deep within the mountains are large deposits of coal and metal ores. Over generations, the Kalani people have built massive monuments and fortresses from the local stone.

The Ashheart Mountain

The sacred mountain of the Ashheart pyromancers is located within the Sperpentine Mountains. According to legend, the divine Fire Serpent once lived on the Ashheart Mountain, and its radiant heat transformed the mountain into a verdant paradise surrounded by icy peaks.

Today however, the Ashheart Mountain is just as cold and barren and those around it. A sect of pyromancers still live in a monastery at the base of the mountain, waiting for their goddess to return.
