Naming Traditions

Family names

Instead of family names, Qiri'tali will use the name of their hometown along with the prefix Al, meaning "of". They will also use a combination of their parents' names if more differentiation is needed.

Culture

Shared customary codes and values

Education is highly valued, and it is believed to be a worthy pursuit for its own sake even if it is not necessary for a person's occupation. Qiri'tali children study mathematics, science, art, and history, while older students are encouraged to learn topics such as philosophy, poetry, or astronomy. A person's level of education often determines their perceived social status and level of respect.

The Qiri'tali avoid war and consider it a brutal practice reserved only for a last resort. Instead, strength should be displayed through words, intelligence, and charisma.

Common Dress code

The Qiri'tali dress in loose thin fabrics as befitting their desert homeland. Red, yellow, and green are all common colors for everyday clothing. White is a very formal and typically used by governmental or religious figures.

Carved bone bracelets are worn during everyday activities, while beautiful gold necklaces, piercings, and circlets are reserved for special occasions. Qiri'tali jewelry is world renowned for their intricate and artistic designs, and pieces are highly fashionable among wealthy Jirithkaens.

Common Customs, traditions and rituals

The "Pathless Journey" is a physical, educational, and spiritual journey taken by many Qiri'tali, especially those born in Iri'tal. During this experience, a person travels far from their home to meet distant people, learn new ideas, and get a better appreciation for the world. The journey is meant to open up a person's eyes to the wonder and chaos of the world and to develop a fuller, wiser, and more experienced self.

Not everyone can afford to make such an extensive journey, and some will work for years in order to save up enough money to begin. Others start their travels with very little funds, believing that working for food and shelter along the way only deepens the experience.

Many of the Qiri'tali who live across the continent once undertook the Pathless Journey and eventually decided to settle down in the lands they visited.

Common Myths and Legends

Many Qiri'tali myths center around the stars. The ancient Qiri'tali believed that the stars and planets were gods, and that their movements in the night sky determined the fates of everything in Leitoria.

Many Qiri'tali still associated the celestial bodies with the divine, but as the embodiment of perfect divine creation rather than actual deities themselves. They believe that the movements of the galaxy are a universal clock created by the gods that counts down to the end of the world.
