Legend Valley Academy
Legend Valley Academy is a paranormal boarding school that exists in a pocket dimension. Mythical creatures and monsters from all cultures of the world may attend.
Students start when they are thirteen, and their powers usually turn uncontrollable with the onset of puberty. In other cases, this age is when their powers manifest fully. Legend Valley Academy helps provide a way to control and harness their abilities.
Schooling
Legend Valley Academy is run like any other co-educational boarding school. Students attend classes in the main hall, and sleep in dormitories that are in different Houses. Students are usually placed in dormitories grouped by culture and religion - for example, students from Asia and Russia are placed in Waterside House, students from North America and Europe in Mildwood House, etc. Each House also has local geographical conditions that would be amenable to the students. The Academy grounds consist of a series of interconnected buildings. The main hall is in the center of a circle, with cobblestone walkways connecting it to several other stone buildings that surrounded it like smaller satellites around a moon. The Houses include:- Highpass House: Situated on top of a mountain, this House is mostly for Scandinavian and European students who prefer colder climates. Eternal snow falls on the mountains.
- Waterside House: A stone building with a waterfall at its side. The dorm house is usually filled with magical students from the Indian subcontinent, Southeast Asia, and Russia.
- Mildwood House: A dorm house that takes its name from the large forest that surrounds the dorm. The dorm itself is a renovated old castle.
- Cliffside House: A modern, sleek building built into a mountain towering over Mildwood and next to Highpass House. Cliffside is for students who prefer a more temperate climate. Mostly populated by students from Nordic countries, North America, etc.
- Ahvaaz House: A sandstone fort in the middle of a windy desert. Students from Middle Eastern countries prefer to stay there.
- Galkavana House: A dormitory located at the edge of a dense, tropical jungle. This House receives heavy rainfall and its surroundings are very humid. Students sometimes use magic to make conditions easier.
- Whitepoint House: A dormitory located in a snowy tundra region, with a lake that can be magically frozen or thawed. Usually for students from Alaska, northern Russia, Canada, the tundra regions of Australia, the Nordic countries, and the poles.
A short, squat stone building huddled on a tall mountain with a snow-covered top, while the waterfall Mal had seen earlier fed a lake that stood next to what looked like a fort made of sandstone. A dense wood surrounded another building that looked like a castle, and what looked like a windy desert was spread out in sand dunes behind the last building, which had a distinctly Middle Eastern feel to it. The moon, which had risen in the calm, night sky, lent everything a magical sheen. By rights, the whole thing should have clashed horribly—a sandy desert in the same valley as a waterfall? —but somehow, it all looked like the parts of a harmonious whole.Notorious, Legend Valley Academy, Book 1
