Riarcos-Bridge Inn

The Riarcos-Bridge Inn is an inn near the Riarcos Bridge in Angeleor on the northern shore of the river Vadion. It is popular with people from in and out of town and is generally recommended to any visitors, as it is the best place to stay. It is renowned for its good accommodation, excellent food and lively, mixed crowd of all kinds of people.

Purpose / Function

The Riarcos-Bridge Inn is a tavern in Angeleor famous for its good food and housing for guests. It has the reputation of a place one must visit when coming to Angeleor. It's an important place of social gathering where people from many situations, origins and backgrounds meet.

Design

The public room, where a crowd gathers almost every night, has a vaulted ceiling, which is supported by pillars spaced evenly across the room on each support point of the ceiling and painted walls.

Entries

The room is accessible by a large wooden front door as well as a side door connecting it to the stables. The guest rooms on the upper floors are acessible by a staircase in the back near the kitchen. There are small windows in the front and riverside walls, one in each vault.

Sensory & Appearance

The public room is always crowded with guests, especially in the evening, so there always is a jumble of voices talking and laughing to be heard, and most of the time some sort of background music played by some musician in the back of the room or sung by the crowd. On a normal day, room smells of delicious, savoury food. If it is very hot outside, the inside of the inn is pleasantly cool, if it is cold, it is most of the time heated by a hearthfire and therefore cozy and warm.

Denizens

The Riarcos-Bridge Inn is popular with crowds from all over Angeleor and is considered the place to stay for visitors from out of town. If there is no room available, it is still a place where visitors are encouraged to go at least once during their stay. Eleonian soldiers are often found there, and it is not uncommon to encounter members of House Angeleor there, although this was rather rare in the past year, since the King and his family had other issues to deal with. Jon sometimes goes there with his lute to play and sing songs for the people. To those who know him, this is quite amusing, but he insists on them not giving away his title to those who never met him officially, so for them he's just some young man singing songs.

Contents & Furnishings

The tavern is filled with many bigger and smaller heavy wooden tables and benches. It is illuminated by simple chandeliers. Since drunk people can be quite stupid and violent, guests are prohibited from having weapons on them in the public room.

Alterations

The inn started out as a small timber-framed town house and has since been remodeled and expanded from stone.

Architecture

Nowadays, the inn is a large structure with three floors and seperate stables built from the local light-grey rock. The walls are, like on most of the stone buildings, plastered and painted, in this case with a soft yellow colour. The windows are made from crown glass, a much cheaper and equally effective alternative to large glass panels. On the ground floor, there is a large puplic room with a vaulted ceiling as well as several smaller side rooms and a kitchen in the back. The guest rooms are located on the upper floors.

Tourism

The Riarcos-Bridge Inn is popular with local as well as visiting crowds. Although it is located in the less prestigious north city of Angeleor, it is the place to stay for visiting merchants and traders. The more expensive rooms of the inn have an excellent view of the castle island. The food and crowds of the inn are well known throughout the city. Aside from visitors from out of town, the inn is popular with the eleonian soldiers as well as people from the whole city.
