Lato

Lato is a planet in the Khantha Stios binary star solar system, orbited by one moon and a thin layer of rings. The planet is home to a sentient, humanoid planetary civilization (ranking greater than or equal to 1 on the Kardashev scale). It is inhabited by three billion humanoids, spread out over twenty-four countries. However, unlike Earth, these countries are united under a common, global, capitalistic and ‘democratic’ government, known as the Establishment, and the planet is characterized by ever-growing monumental technological success and great social backwardness. Both similarly and in contrast to Earth, society is divided by class; however, these classes are determined by the eight hair colors, in descendance of class from red-haired, or naranjette, blonde, or amarillite, bluenettes, cyanettes, ristans (white/silver-haired), verdettes(green-haired), brunettes, and, lastly, noirettes(black-haired). Our young, yet accomplished verdette protagonist, Riave, has a warped sense of self due to being adopted by an naranjette/amarillite couple. Growing up in their world, with amarillite friends and naranjette co-workers, Riave harbors an internalized insecurity and self-hatred towards her own race. However, this is soon to change when an encounter with her bosses’ rebellious son, Radwan, causes her to cross paths with Nahri, an eccentric, intelligent, and resentful noirette man who privately expresses hatred for the government Riave works for. In spending more time with one another, the three become more questionable and less loyal to the systems that bound them and are eventually lead by multiple realizations to the only solution for the global issue -- revolution.
