Government

Being a relatively small village, the mayor of the town serves as the judge and center of the legislative body for the "laws of man". For laws regarding the conservation of nature and related activities, however, the mayor defers to Orinia and Oakley, a dryad and her male treant host, who together act as liasons between nature and humanity. The town otherwise respects all the laws handed down by King Franco or Prince Conrad.

Defences

The town has no notable defenses, structurally. Per kingdom rules, many men of age undergo basic combat training once every few years, which assists locals in apprehending criminals, but there are no professionally trained and armed soldiers as part of the town's permanent population. Most weapons are crude iron forms that have seen many years of service and roughshod maintenance at best, but arrowheads, nets, darts, slings, and other hunting implements are readily available.

Industry & Trade

The town largely relies on exporting lumber, though it does make a pretty penny for itself exporting mushrooms, berries, and other gathered goods from the forest as well as from rent, as many landowners rent out their spare rooms to travelers during the Harfest gathering competition.

Infrastructure

The town largely relies on the surrounding deep forests to provide for its people; as such, many of its facilities revolve around storing and processing of forest goods, including:   * The Shroom Shack: a wooden building built over a small cave that has been lined with professionally-cut stone. The interior stays considerably cool throughout the year, making it a perfect place for storing nuts and fungi gathered from the forest to help them stay fresh.   * Smoking hut: A small building where fresh meats, vegetables, and mushrooms are smoked and dried, providing nourishment year-round as well as a source of exportable produce.   * Housing is largely constructed of wood and crude-cut stone. With Orinia's blessing, a team of dwarvish lumberjacks provide lumber and haul in riverbed stones for most local construction, which is largely defined as a hybrid between elvish and human architectural styles (for example, prominent straight and stout external cross-braces that give way to several smaller decorative floral elements, and heavy use of window planter boxes and extensive personal gardens).   * Most roads are packed dirt, with only small subsections of the town's central square being paved with river stones.

Assets

There is a local general store that offers a small variety of hunting supplies, groceries, and other odds and ends in town. The store also serves as a post office and tax office, as most incoming goods and parcels pass through the general store's doors before reaching anyone else.   Although the smokehouse is readily available to anyone to use if they bring their own fuel and tend to the fires themselves, a local pit master tends to the smokehouse fires and sells a variety of woods for smoking, as well as offering his services for those who would rather avoid the hassle.   Close to the central plaza is a wide two-story building with a sign labeled "Tipsy Tessy's Inn" hanging from the veranda, which serves as the town's tavern and inn. Although the building is significantly larger than most anything in town, many of its numerous rooms go unused until the annual Harfest, when the town is packed to the brim with visitors from the south. The bar offers a good selection of brews to please tourist visitors' palettes, but the crowning jewel of the menu is a mead brewed by the owner and his family.

Guilds and Factions

No guilds or factions operate out of or in Treland, although passing visitors for Harfest festivities may openly speak about and recruit for their causes.

History

Treland is a relatively old settlement as far as small villages go in the Aloret province -  being only a short ways in from the northwestern Larcenian coastline, it was one of the first inland colonies settled by humans who dared to climb their way up the sea wall cliffs and work their way inland. However, like water, populations flow by a path of least resistance, and it wouldn't be until a road through the Arcan mountains would be carved that the town would see any further population boost. By this point, humans had largely mingled with wood elves who had stayed behind when the Tel Eiren elves had handed the island over to humanity, resulting in a hearty population of half-elves and a blending of architectural and cultural styles.

Architecture

Treland's buildings are comprised of a mix of Elvish and Human architecture, with building materials including wood, river stones, and occasionally imported clay for bricks or wattle and daubed half-timber construction. Elvish floral elements are present throughout the construction, with the town sporting an abundance of personal gardens, flower boxes along windows, and well-tended public spaces.
