Developer Diary - May 2023
Salutations! This is the first entry in my Developer Diary series.
I'm hoping to update this saga monthly and keep track of my progress and intentions for the world of Lapurisia.
I started my 2023 with the intention of getting my World Anvil "launched" by the end of February. It's May and...we're just about there! Honestly, I have a lot of anxiety about making things public on World Anvil, even though I know it won't be seen by loads of people I want it to be perfect! I briefly made articles public during the July 2021 SummerCamp (mainly because I wanted the badge! haha), but they were definitely not my best work and totally needed some proofreading.
SummerCamp 2021 did give me a lot of inspiration though, in fact, the prompt "a species of working animal" helped me develop the "Bect", an organism which now plays a vital role in the Lapurisian Empire. I'm hoping to participate in SummerCamp 2023 and at least get the Silver Badge, even if the articles aren't perfect I know it's a great event for inspiration.
But why have I decided to "launch" my world now? I've had this World Anvil account since July 2020 and the concept of Lapurisia has been ticking away since 2017. With my new year goal and then delays in January and February I was content to wait until the end of June to launch my "world".
Well...with two long weekends with Emily Armstrong helping me out with CSS on top of her telling me about Blue Fairy's Unofficial Coronation Challenge and well...here we are! The Death of Queen Pherlorma and the subsequent Coronation play a vital role in my main plotline and I decided that whilst watching the Coronation of Charles III I would work on my coronation article. When mentioning this to Emily she linked me to the Challenge. Deciding to bite the bullet I spent my first week of May prepping my world for a launch including my Coronation of the Lapurisian Diarchs article. I haven't entered it yet and I'm writing this diary entry before I make my world live. I'm still pretty nervous about the whole launching thing!
Live Articles: 5
Total World Words: 52881
To Do List: A Bazillion Stubs
What I should work on first: Theoyspurianism Article
What I'll do instead: Articles that will never see the light of day

Luckily, not only am I friends with the amazing world anvil whizz Emily Armstrong, but I am also friends with Sapha Burnell who critiques articles and pieces of prose during their live streams! (Sapha is also a professional editor and queen of condensing text - thank you for helping me condense down my world blurb - lifesaver!) So to help with my anxiety I've signed up for one of the critiquing slots for the 11th of May. Hopefully, she doesn't roast me too hard. This really is a month of firsts over here at Melody Relody HQ.
For the rest of May, I'm probably going to be focusing on my character articles but I'm more than happy to see where the wind takes me and enjoy my time getting through my to-do list!
