The Projector

If there is one thing that Ezra realized first when regaining consciousness within the limits of Wexmadios, it is the lack of any sort of writing tool being used.

Need to have a reminder? You recorded it.

Giving final approval on documents? A recorded verbal agreement or a biosignature.

Navigation? Some sort of advanced GIS suffices to get to point A to point B.

Creating visual art? Just use an augmentation and upload the images in your mind’s eye to a digital display.

Even entertainment mediums found their ways around not writing things down. And from how Ezra understands it, there was never a written system used for at least one hundred thousand years.

It baffles them as, on Earth, it was a given. You learned how to write your letters. You learned how to type them on the computers. You write out your lists or draw with pens.

No, instead, there is the well-known Projector.

A device small enough to fit into Ezra’s hand, it requires little tactile input. They can come in any hue, and many organizations manufacture them as a commodity. Many denizens often use them with a communicator. In a roundabout way, Ezra could see it being like texting on those “smartphone” devices that were prevalent back in the 21st century Earth.

It is a speech-to-text technology that was years ahead of what humans had developed. Before they decided, mutually assured destruction was the better goal.

Augmented species, like the Umuunori, can project their words through the Projector with a thought. Anyone else needs to speak out their thoughts and the words would appear wherever you directed the output end of the device.

When Ezra describes the ways of communication and writing to others in Talconos, such tools confuse but fascinate them. They created a pencil to show the differences and most just saw it as useless.

Another cultural shock that Ezra will need to get used to.
