Courier's Guild
About the Guild
The couriers guild was established shortly after the creation of capsules, which allowed for the capture and taming of emites. Prior to this ability even well used roads posed potential dangers and most communities stayed small and isolated. After there was a huge boom in adventurers and travel, at which time the original small band of couriers decided to try and keep some semblance of order. They formed the first iteration of the couriers guild, organizing like minded individuals to create a safe and functioning contract based mail system. Local artisans, famers, and other merchants could establish trade deals with other towns, then cities, and feel secure that their goods would get delivered or they would receive compensation if they didn't for any reason.
Modern day couriers are not quite as essential as technology and the general attitude around emites have changed, but they remain a thriving part of every community. It's generally considered a stepping stone to any career involving the training of emites to get your couriers license. It's the easiest way to travel without going broke after all!
Divisions
Hubs and couriers are the most visible part of the guild but there are other things that go on behind the scenes. High among them is getting a merchant contract with the guild, this contract allows for people to buy goods from a verified source and have said goods delivered via courier. Allowing for a far larger customer base for any business, these contracts are not easy to obtain and immediately gives the artisan/merchant/business/etc a status boost in their local community.
Overseers Council
The coucil is made up largely of master artisans, most were also couriers even if they sought another occupation later in life, and their job is to approve or deny Merchant Contracts. They do so on a variety of factors, quality of work that the applicant produces, attention to detail, current customer satisfaction and current business relations. More than a few applicants have been denied despite having incredible work for being nasty to the business partners they considered 'lesser'. The Council prides themselves on keeping to these values and is notoriously impossible to bribe.
Merchant Contracts
These contracts allow merchants to include their products into the Courier Catalogue, meaning that anyone with a Hub located in their area can order these products regardless of where they are made. There are other such services of course but they lack the prestige and backing of the guild.
Hubs
Exactly what it sounds like, hubs are the central points of the courier network. Every major city has at least one hub and even many small towns have at minimum a hub terminal if not a full building. Hubs are where a courier goes to take on contracts, pick up their packages and register/renew their licenses. Hubs are usually run by retired master couriers, but it's not a requirement.
Couriers
The lifeblood of the network, the people who actually make the deliveries.
