Death Nexus
Purpose
This temple is famous for being able to cure any ailment that is vulnerable to magic, up to and including death.
As a central conduit for life and death magic, these types of spells become extremely effective while within the walls of the temple. Be it cures, resurrection, or necromancy, these spells tend to have twice the efficiency and raw power. It is recommended to leave casting magic to the trained clerics, however, as the rush can be both uncontrolled and addicting.
Architecture
The temple is carved out of a massive obsidian mountain, but the dark glass-like stone has been masterfully shaped to have as much space as is needed for worship, treatment, and reanimation. The exterior appears to be a dark gothic cathedral set into the side of a mountain, with colorful stained glass windows depicting dragons shining brilliantly in the sun and moonlight. In the central chamber a small Sigil Tree is rooted, only large enough to support the clergy that live within the temple full time, but is heavily guarded for its protective qualities, vital in the otherwise hostile location.
Surrounding Area
The Death Nexus is located in the heart of a swampland, dangerous not only from the living creatures within it but also the undead. Excess traces of powerful magics would leak out into the waters and air around the nexus, healing and reanimating the creatures of the bog. The waterways and lakes are murky and deep, and house crocodiles and even huge aquatic predators such as the mosasaur.
History
Originally the lair of the aspect of Tiamat associated with the powers of life and death, the nexus developed slowly into a potent source for this type of magic, which lingered even after the dragon goddess was reforged into a singular being once again. Abandoned as a lair, the clerics and druids began to reshape it into the temple it is today.
