Skin quill

When you paint on skin you paint life.
Pigmented elf philosophy

The skin quill looks like a quill that has meticulasly been inscribed with elvish writing and where the tip has been replaced by an intricate metal ball.

When dipped in ink the ball holds a surprising amount of liquid. When used on any normal surface it works like any other quill, except that the writing is generally very smooth and wide.

However, when used on skin everything changes. The ink, which plays a big part in this, seems to seep into skin, where it remains forever. It can be overriten again with a skin quill, but not with any other tatooing method.

Novices using the quill can very easily get thin, crisp lines out of the skin quill, but masters are able to produce almost any brush shape that they want using the same tip.

It is believed that in order to schieve this pigmented elves use subtle magic to guide both themselves and the ink to go where they want it.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

The skin quill works in part thanks to magic, and in part mechanically. The magic seems to mostly appear when it is being used on skin and scales.

Manufacturing process

The process is never written down

Significance

This tool is increadebly important to pigmented elves who use it to its full potential every day. Due to its increadible capabilities it has allowed pigmented elves to find something of high value that they can export.

It is very difficult to get a tattoo that looks even close to what the elves can achieve, which is why they are sometimes paid to inscribe important edicts and messanges onto volunteers so that they cannot be misunderstood to be fake.
