Blackrock Material in Land of the Ancients | World Anvil

Blackrock

Why in the ancients name would you bring that here?! Throw it out immediately!

Properties

Material Characteristics

This brittle mineral can be found in veins throughout the lower levels of the Underdark. It looks like a dark streak in the rock that is ever so slightly warmer than its surrounding.

Physical & Chemical Properties

Blackrock radiates heat. The amount of heat depends on the purity of the mineral. Furthermore, if put under water it radiates a faint blue light.

Those who are near this mineral suffer various ailments, like hair loss, vomiting, sunburns or even death over long exposure.

History & Usage

Everyday use

While no one wants to handle blackrock for longer periods of time, it is still harvested, collected and put in large containers. Then these containers have water flowing through them in order to warm the water up. Some cultures refuse to do this on the basis that the water becomes "unpure" and "tainted by the blue light".

Refinement

The mineral can be made more pure, but the process is labor intensive and is very likely to cause illness, so it is very rarely done.
