Battle Spears

On every planet pioneered by a Starseed, a Science Department exists as an extraterritorial organization. The reason for that is that the United Nations had seen up close what happened when science was politicised and commercialised, especially in the case of pandemics. Since it was expected that many planet-pioneering projects would face local diseases and other challenges, scientific neutrality was a must.
As part of this neutrality, the Science Department must be able to protect itself, without depending on Defenders for their security. This is why they have their own bodyguards, the Battle Spears, which are also medically enhanced through the Superserum. The Battle Spears are formally responsible for securing the Science Department compounds, as well as escort any scientist that travels outside the compounds.
An important note here is that not all employed by the Science Department count as scientists that must be protected. Medical specialists, engineers, architects and such mostly do not count as scientists, and are not considered to be people in need of protection.

Ranks

The Battle Spears are a relatively flat hierarchy. From top to bottom, their hierarchy knows three layers, namely the Executives, the Commanders, and normal Spears. Commanders lead units, while the Executives tend to stay on base and lead from there.
There is an informal respect of seniority and superiority, so one Commander may be inclined to obey another's orders, but this structure is not formalised in any way.

Tiers

Battle Spears their powers are ranked in tiers (1~5) based on how much Superserum they are treated with, which has a strong correlation with their actual strength. While each individual's tier is well-known, it does not directly translate to their hierarchy. It does impact their assigned duties, as Tier 4+ are only used for protecting high-profile individuals, while Tier 1 rarely are sent along Explorations. They also are used as a form of title, so someone could be called a Tier 3 Battle Spear.
