Explorer's Guide to Araiela

Greetings once again dear traveler! This installment of the Explorer's Guide series, as I'm sure you're able to tell, is filled with information you might find useful about the Minor Continent of Araiela. So then, why don't we go ahead and get started, hm?

The first thing to address about this continent is a very common, very understandable misunderstanding. Often, people refer to the Araielan Union as Araiela. This, while easy to do, is wrong. Not only is it wrong, but if you refer to the AU as Araiela in the presence of one of the elves that live there....

Well let's just say that they'd prefer you don't make that mistake. The continent is Araiela, and the country is the Araielan Union.

Anyway! Back to the real content of this book; first the geography. Generally speaking, the Northwestern half is mountainous and hilly, and the rest consists of flat plains and gently rolling hills. Over all, it's quite pleasant. Much of the countryside has been developed into farmland, and several small towns and villages dot the landscape. There are not too terribly many rivers on the continent, but where there is one, a city has likely built itself around it. However, one may notice from looking on a map that there are a few distinct badland regions. This is not due to anything natural, I assure you. No, these regions are uninhabitable because the elves have utterly ruined them, often in magical experiments. I myself have not ventured into these lands for my own safety. I'd recommend you do the same for yours. The horrors that have been committed there are staggering, and when I asked locals for more information, most went quiet.

As for places of interest here, an adventurer might look to the city of Montveil, Linnet, or Antissy. The two former are both busy port cities, the latter is the capital of the AU as a whole. Aside from them, there are also two cities known for arcane studies: Genedam and Rornier. In any one you choose, there is sure to be some kind of work for someone looking for it.

Another point of interest that I would highly recommend everyone - not just adventurers - visit; there is the small town of Doetinnisse in the hilly Northeast. I came to this town during my travels around the region a few years ago, and discovered what must be the best café to ever exist. Like I said, I would highly recommend that everyone goes there.

Dangerous wildlife for this region are certainly more unique than what can be found elsewhere. Escaped magical experiments and the like have caused the natural beasts to be altered, and often you'll find chimeras or golems in the badlands. Sometimes in the civilized lands too!

Once again dear reader, you have reached the end of one of my books. Hopefully now you know enough about Araiela to at least begin your travels there. Good luck, and safe travels!
