The Ice Village Report
General Summary
@Cyren Smolfoat , , and Adaon are huddled in a hut, along with the four people with them, Dreyin, Hjalti, an unknown boy, and a barely alive young man, as well as several animals. The temperature is dropping...
Adaon takes the pendant that was given to Cyren by @DaelRunemaster[NPC] and casts @knowessence[spell] on it. It allows only Cyren and Dael to use it, and allows them to find one another, if they concentrate on it. It cannot get lost, and will always go back to the owner.
It is getting very cold out, rapidly; so cold that the trees are cracking and breaking from the cold. Adaon turns himself to air and scouts around in a 1km radius, finding that the temperature is only slightly warmer to the north, but significantly warmer 1km to the south, being only about -25 C. Adaon ports everyone there. Then they travel another 3km south and set up camp until morning. The horses and the two youngsters are inside the tent always.
Shortly before dawn Ivan and Adaon hear the sound of trees cracking from the cold, and then start to feel the temperature dropping. They quickly pack up and head southeast for an hour, The cold does not seem to follow them.
After travelling another two hours, Hjalti realizes that he has lost the trail and they are now lost. Dreyin does not recognize where they are, either. Everyone ponders how to find their way, Cyren suggests climbing a tree.
Adaon states that he can "probably" make a portal to where Dreyin's companions died. Dreyin agrees to let Adaon look into his mind to see it. Adaon uses his artist skill to recreate the image of Tranyir, the female Jarai he thinks of. Adaon then makes a portal to the cave. There they find the remains of Dreyin's former party. It is here, when asked about the battle, the Dreyin. reveals that it was a single demon that they fought.
It gets colder and colder. As it is completely dark an ice ice creature drops from the ceiling. Adaon, casts a 30-point flame hose at it. It does not like that! It's head melts....
Adaon suggests that they smash it so that it doesn't come back...
A giant ice cave bear attacks! Adaon again casts flame hose for 30 points to its head. Ivan and Cyren both manage to hit it, Cyren twice, all in the head. They disable it, then kill it. The bear appears to be made out of ice.
They travel for quite a ways in, then come across a larger cavern that looks crystalline because of all the icicles. Adaon asks if he should just shatter the whole thing. They say, "Yes!"
It does not work, and Adaon is thrown to the ground. He tries another spell, and is encased in ice. He uses a spell to shatter the front of this and steps out of the ice shell. Ivan then casts lightning to the shimmering area, which just lights it up. He is then pushed hard and slides back several metres. He can tell that the push was hard enough that if he didn't have armour on it would have injured him.
Now everyone appears confused... And Adaon is casting a spell that takes a long time to cast! The others are waiting. Ivan casts another lightning spell, but misses the misty area.
Cyren starts shooting his goddess' arrows at the thing that is forming in the middle, hitting it in the head 4 times. It charges! He shoots one last time, hitting it square in the face... It disappears in a shower of snow, which falls all over Cyren. He is covered in snow.
It's still getting colder. They can hear their breath crack.
Adaon collapses the ceiling in the area, making sure that Cyren and Ivan leave first. He uses the teleportation sword, but is hit slightly by a stone on the way out. Once outside they all go back inside, but cannot get all the way in, due to the collapse. So they go back outside and hike to the top of the hill where the cavern would have been underneath and inspect, seeing an indentation, and feeling that area is still extremely cold.
There is a storm cloud coming... And it moves unnaturally fast.
In the mean time Adaon open a portal that funnels elemental fire to the place where the demon appears to have come from. While this happens, Ivan is attacked by a snow snake, but he is able to attack it, hitting it twice, while Cyren shoots it a couple of times. This causes the snake to let go of Ivan and flee.
From the opposite side comes a group of 6 wargs attacks. Cyren shoots two of them, crippling them, and Ivan shoots a third, rendering it lame. Then the others flee.
The flames continue to funnel into the cold area.
Adaon contacts Catalina so that he can find out how to deal with the demon. She states that it sounds like it was travelling back-and-forth between planes, but they have now cut off its portal. It cannot leave until its task (or tasks) are complete. It may, however, be a minor devil, in which case it's possible that it took over its summoner and is now acting independently. This makes it harder to get rid of, since there is no portal left to throw it back through.
For a very long time the group discusses how to deal with this. Eventually they decide that they are all going back into time for 24 hours, which is the minimum they can, to prevent the closing of the demon's portal.
Instead of going back in time, they port to Bear Keep and get the @Boxof Necros[item] and make a plan to trap the devil in the box. They then travel back to the storm, where they had destroyed the portal, and Adaon tries to traces the source of the storm's magic back to the north, thus following the devil.
They eventually realise that it is heading towards or at @CastleVanyiir[settlement]. Once they arrive, they see the exterior is encased in ice and there are dead knights outside, all frozen. As they enter inside they see that the inner keep doors are gone and replaced by a thick wall of ice. Ivan's tries to smash it with his hammer, but does little damage. Adaon then decides to use a spell to shatter the ice. The sound of this alerts the creature that they are here.
They follow some screams through the keep. These eventually lead to the inner throne room, in which the devil has captured the baroness and destroyed the baron. A cloud starts to form behind Adaon in the hallway. He yells, "Cyren, the box!" Cyren quickly reacts, managing to hit the cloud, and it growls and screams. Then is sucked into the box. An Ælf-like creature laughs, sitting on the baron's seat, with its overly large hand encircling the baroness' neck. Ivan is instantly teleported outside. Then the devil disappears with the baroness.
Adaon, infuriated, looks around. "Damn!" Cyren quickly runs up to the chair, searches around, and comes up with some hair, handing it to Adaon. "Here! It's the baroness's." Adaon then quickly teleports after it, using her hair to trace, landing on its back. It freezes him, but Adaon's magic protects him enough that he is not hurt so badly. He slams the box into it, entrapping it. It disappears into the box, with the baroness. Adaons falls, plunging into the river through the ice. He struggles, trying not to drown. Thankfully, he is a good swimmer, and that (with some magic to break the ice as he surfaces) save him. Once he gets to the shore, he uses the sword to teleport back to the castle, where Ivan and Cyren quickly take care of him so that he doesn't suffer from hypothermia.
It is Hudsi 22 and the group heads back to Bear Keep.
Cyren realizes that they did not see the female youths, including the heir to Castle Vanyiir.
