The Withering of the Blessed Isles Plot in Laeonesse | World Anvil

The Withering of the Blessed Isles

From the first notes of the Song of Laeonesse, Lynur and his Court of Dawn have striven against the Night-King and his Court of Dusk, for long before the Song began, they were comrades and shield-brothers, for dusk and dawn are but two parts of the same song. Yet the Night-King was ever jealous of the love and majesty of Lynur, so he struck through treachery at the isles they had first made their home.   Yet such was the grace and majesty of the Court of Dawn and Lynur that very nature infused the lands with their power and wonder, drawing forth the Fae-race from the very fabric of the Song, to serve as stewards and caretakers of the Isles and to prepare them for the arrival of the mortal children, for whom the isles and world were designed.   The Night-King was furious at the development and began to use his skill and guile to corrupt the new Faen kind and win some of the Faen Lords to his cause, eventually creating the Faen Court of Dusk, and ever, the isles of Laeonesse remind him of his past and how he has fallen, so he seeks to bring rot and corruption to mirror his own diminished state.

Plot points/Scenes

Act One- The Faen War: Slowly, the mortal peoples of the world have trickled their way into Laeonesse, pushing against the borders and boundaries set by the Fae, driven by their own need to survive and prosper in this new land. Yet with the influence of the Night-King, there are those among the Fae who see their own neighbors as resources to use and control, so they have established a system of enthrallment to keep the mortals enslaved. Yet, as the blood of the two kindreds begins to mix, humans begin to develop Faen gifts, including to resist their glamour, and heroes rise from the scattered folk of the world to bring an end to humanity's captivity.   Act Two- The Aelithi Invasion: Centuries have passed since the Faen War and it is now no more than myth and legend, remembered only in snippets of song and tale. Yet, the people prosper under the guidance of the druids and bards. Yet across the sea, on the mainland, the Aelithi people have risen from their city-state to forge an empire, and they have set their sights on rich Laeonesse, sending their legions to bring the wild people of the West under their civilizing influence. Separated and divide into countless small kingdoms ruled by ambitious petty kings, can the Blessed Isles resist the onslaught that marches across their lands?   Act Three- The Restoration of the Pendraeg: Civil war in the east has brought the Aelithi Empire to its knees and all of its forces and governing officials have been withdrawn from Laeonesse, leaving a power vacuum only loosely prevent from collapsing into chaos by Uthan the Pen Draeg, chief dragon or warlord of Laeonesse, even as old as he is. Ambitious chieftains set their sights on the High Kingship, each with their own agenda, while the true heir is taken into hiding among the Fey by the Archdruid Emrys. Laeonesse must survive until the child can come of age and forge the mantle of High King.
