The Acholt
Few places had the cold beauty of the Acholt, not even Ynys Awen matched the sight of the woods draped ever in fog. Only the Acholt themselves could navigate and survive such a landscape. Moss deep enough to drown a tall man cradled the tree roots, and by Lynur, the trees. Ten men could barely reach all the way around their trunks and their tops scraped the mountaintops. But it is gone, torn apart by the shifting of the mountain giants.
Geography
One of the most beautiful places in Laeonesse, the Acholt is a forested highland that stretches across the mountains of Gwyddard, accessible by mountain passes on both the eastern and western edge of the range. From the peak of each pass, one can look down into the valley highlands between and on the rare clear day, one can catch sight of the distant peaks at the far side. A lake lies in the center of the valley, surrounded by the forest's heart, with countless small streams running down from the mountain peaks and glaciers.
Fauna & Flora
Moss appears to be the most common form of flora in Acholt, as it lies heavily on the ground, covering the entire landscape between the trees and the trees themselves. However, the trees are the predominant life-form, indeed the region is named after them. Acholt meaning Oak-hold and indeed, the highlands are covered in ancient oak trees, allegedly planted by the Fae. The trees dwarf all other known trees within the Isles. This has led to very little undergrowth beyond the moss, but there are enough small shrubs to support a healthy environment of elk and wolves. Red squirrels and great owls live within the trees themselves, and amphibious creatures are plentiful along the waterways.
Natural Resources
The primary resource is the plentiful oakwood within the valley and elk that lives within the grove. There are easily accessible iron veins along the valley-walls, and settlers have cleared small patches of the wood to create small farms. Livestock grazes within the wood.
