The Scythe
So called for the shape of the massive peninsula in the westernmost part of the Great Continent, the Scythe also depicts the fertility and capacity for crops in the inner edge of this landmass, where gently rolling hills and low mountains trap rain coming in from the ocean. The northwestern region of the Scythe is dry grassland and desert, but the coast along the Bay of Heroes boasts complex rain forests and coral reefs to the south, with the northern part of the bay serving as a breadbasket for much of humanity.
Geography
Hills and low mountains run down the center of the Scythe, stopping the large rainstorms coming in from the ocean and creating the numerous rivers that carry rich volcanic soil and other nutrients down to the coast. The Bay of Heroes is irregularly shaped and neatly closed off in the south by the city of Hisarlik's influence (little trade can occur without the mighty city state knowing about it and collecting their dues), but the inlets still provide resources to communities on both sides of the bay. South of the bay, rain forests and reefs dominate, with a handful of man'di tribes making up most of the population and living in comparatively undeveloped communities; their agriculture is not nearly to the same scale as the humans to the north. Mangrove forests line te coast up and down much of the Scythe, making for easy fishing, though local rulers impose strict regulations to prevent taxing this resource overly much. At the northernmost part of the bay, where the rainshadow from the eastern peninsula begins to dry out the land somewhat, the last bastion of the Republic in the east maintains brackish rice paddies where they grow a salt-resistant rice that feeds many across the Republic, with millet growing in the drier plains to the north.
Fauna & Flora
Mangrove plants are common, and the southern part of the Scythe boasts incredible ecological diversity both on land and in the water. Sages have cataloged hundreds of species of bird, insect, fish, and plants, and man'di tribes venerate the jaguar, black eagle, and saltwater crocodile as ultimate hunters in this climate.
