Tarasurr Ignitergith, the Beacon of Quara
Tarasurr Ignitergith
The Most High Archbishop, Tarasurr Ignitergith, the Beacon of Quara is the current leader of the Children of the Light in the Empire of Kyrnia.
Assuming the mantle of the Most High Archbishop fifty-three years ago, after the previous Most High Archbishop Gromyas of Stalis walked the final Path of Light to join Anno the Light in the The Upper Lands, Tarasurr Ignitergith was seen as a long-shot for the position. As Bishop of a remote province of the Empire, he was not well known by most of the other Bishops, and was not noted for any strongly written treatises on the faith, which is how previous candidates have risen to prominence. When the synod was convened to determine the next Most High, he was contacted by the strongest candidates, as were all the members of the synod, to ask for their support. Tarasurr listened to all of them and set his mind to vote for one of them.
When the synod was called into order for the candidates to make their cases, Tarasurr was surprised about how each one spoke of their leadership skills, their treatises that they had written, their knowledge of the faith, and the politics needed to keep the church moving in the direction that they felt it needed to go in. But what he didn't see was anyone talk about how to serve the faithful, how to raise up the downtrodden; how to bring the Light to those in the shadows.
On the second day of the synod, the candidates were addressed by the gathered bishops with questions of rites, and rituals; of dogma and politics. When it came to Tarasurr to speak. He hesitated at first, not sure how to begin. Some of the other bishops thought he was going to sit back down without uttering a word, an he almost did. But then the Light of Anno came to him, and he spoke not of dogma and politics, but of hope and healing and extending the Light into the shadows. As he continued, his confidence grew, and his speech became stronger. Some of those present have said they saw the Light of Anno surround him as he spoke. By the end of his speech, there were calls for him to raised to Most High, and within the hour, he was named the Most High and given the honorific, the Beacon of Quara.
Within a few days, the Children of the Light began to see changes in how the church was run. Bishops were given more control over the Holy Order of the Bringers and Protectors of the Light Resplendent and told to use them to as needed to route out the darkness and bring the Light to all. New treatises were added to The Book of the Light and distributed that directed the church to change from a bureaucracy of clerics within cloistered walls, to missionaries that sought out those on the edge of shadow and guide them into the light. It took a while before the church changed directions but Tarasurr's leadership has grown the Children of the Light, and brought the clerics out of the larger cities and into the wider world. Now you can find a church of the Light in almost every village, and clerics and Lightbringers outside of their monasteries and churches and carrying the Light everywhere.
