Rod of Kaldar

One of the items brought back from an expedition lead by the adventurer, Hertemis Longtongue, and was purchased for the collection of Kaldar the Misshapen, is a red metal rod with a ruby gem set in one end and a leather handle with wrist strap at the other end.   When Hertemis returned from an expedition that he claims discoverad an ancient tomb filled with monsters and deadly traps, he had several unique treasures with him, many of them he has sold off to collectors, including this particular rod, which after examination by Kaldar, was purchased immediately. Hertemis thinking the rod was not of any great value, and more likely a symbol of rank or authority of the long dead person, whose tomb he found it in, sold it for just one hundred silvers. Not having anything else to call it, the people of Nedev, who know about such things, call it the Rod of Kaldar, although Kaldar himself calls it "insignificant", or a "trifle of a thing, not to be bothered with", although he has refused to let any other scholars or mages even gaze upon it.   One of Kaldar's apprentices, Hurzel the Bathless, was once heard talking about the Rod of Kaldar after having a few too many ales one night, and described it as "a black hole that magic gets sucked into." Not too long after that, Hurzel was dismissed from service, and is currewntly a hedge magician traveling the county performing tricks at fairs and festivals for coin.   It is rumored that the Rod of Kaldar was stolen one night by the Brotherhood, and that is why Kaldar does not show it off. Other rumors include that it was sent off to Quora for examination by the Arcadium who have since ordered Kaldar not to talk about it; or that the Rod might be a Edennaoth, perhaps the one once used by Emperor Simminar Kyrn to create the Dragonborne.
