Initiation into the Brotherhood of Stone
When a potential member is invited to the Brotherhood of the Stone, they are given a rune-carved rock, that leads them to the nearest member of the Brotherhood. After discussing with the Stone Brother member, what the Brotherhood represents and accepting the invitation to join, the canidate goes through a series of tasks before becoming a full Stone Brother or Sister.
The first task, is the simpliest: the initiate must swear an oath to the Brotherhood of the Stone.
"I swear by all the Risen, that I will be a true and dedicated servant of the Brotherhood. I will find and destroy the monsters that plague this land and in doing so make the Middle Lands safe for all who wish to live in peace and free from fear. I will protect all those who can not protect themselves, from any and all monsters. I will keep myself prepared to do battle against the spawn of darkness at any hour of the day or night, and I will not tire in my pursuit of them. My mind, my body and my soul, I so do pledge."
After swearing the Oath, the initiate is now a probationary member of the Brotherhood. The second task, is to now find and eliminate a monster. The Brotherhood will not assist in this task, although the probationary member may have assistance from others. The probationary member needs to show leadership, bravery, cunning, and fortitude in defeating the monster. Once the monster has been defeated, the rune-carved Stone they carry, will grow warm when held, and direct them back to the Brother/Sister that they swore the Oath with.
Once returning, the probationary member, now becomes an associate member, and can seek and expect help from members of the Brotherhood of the Stone, but they are not full Brothers/Sisters until completing one last task. The new associate member must now go through a ritual cleaning of them selves and their equipment, and must donate all their worldly possessions (except adventuring gear) to someone in more need of them then they are. Once they have done so, they start their new journey as a full Brother/Sister of the Stone.
