Duncle Neardeath

Duncle Neardeath was once known as Duncle Goblinbane when he rode with Baron Nocroth's expeditionary force as it conquoered the lands that are now the Barony of Nedev.   As one of the original companions of Baron Zazar Nocroth, Duncle fought along side the Baron, the Falums, the Longoaths and others to defeat the monsters they encountered, particularly the Red Blade Gobbers. Before the Battle of Nedev, Duncle cast spells of concealment that hid the rafts floating down the river to the base of the cliffs. Once the Baron's men reached the top of the cliffs and entered the Red Blade encampment, Duncle used hsis powerful magic to confuse and destroy many of them, as well as nuetralizing the Red Blade shamans magics.   Baron Nocroth made Duncle a lord, as he did with the other members of his leadership team, the Falums and the Longoaths. Duncle did not request land, only a place where he could live and continue serving his friend and Baron as his court wizard. Eventually, as Nocroth Keep was completed, Duncle was given one of the towers as his own.   Duncle's magical power continued to grow as he studied the items broguht bak from explorations of lost cities and ruins that were found throughout the eastern region of Nedev. He undertook many expeditions of his own to study the things found first hand. It is rumored that he found many ancient scrolls and books of runes that hold many secrets.   Over the years Duncle's magical experimentations and spell castings have caused a change in him. He has grown old, but beyond that he has grown hideous. Those that have caught glimpses of him under his dark robes as he speaks from the the shadows at court talk about warts and boils on his face and arms, and a strange lump under his robes that seems to move on its own. His skin, always brown from years outdoors, has turned a light green, and his voice now more of a hiss than the baritone of his younger years.   While he is still a favored court wizard, the Baron often jokes with people new to his court about having them spend time with Duncle if they displease him. Duncle's reputation among the locals has changed from being a hero and founder of Nedev, to being the scariest man in the town.
