The Feywild is the ancestral home of the elves, and their goal is to return to it when they die. Each ritual is done to prepare for this journey; even their four-hour trance is traditionally used to get used to their astral body. Their religious practices focus mostly on death, but only because returning to the Feywild is just the beginning of a new life, a new phase of their existence. An elf's long life is a blessing because each extra moment is one to prepare for the journey. Due to the chaotic nature of the plane, fey deity cannot claim an individual through a contract of faith. They instead send their faithful daimons to Kyre to bring willing souls over. This divine assistance doesn't guarantee a safe journey since devils and demons are always on the prowl, but there are a few tactics used to save as many as possible. Temples act as safe houses---defended by clerics, paladins, and one or more demigods--- in which the souls congregate and wait for a guiding daimon to appear in a random location, at a random time. Once they appear, all living who are willing and able congregate at the temple and trek to the divined location. It's bad luck on your own postmortem journey if you don't help your loved ones if you could have been there otherwise.
The salmon symbolizes the mortal journey because of their herculean effort to return to where they came from. Mammals that change their fur color in winter symbolize resilience and adaptability.
