Ripple Darjan Character in Kruos | World Anvil

Ripple Darjan

Renowned for her beauty, grace, intellect, and guile; Ripple Darjan is likely the most famous mistress in the history of Kruos. Said to be the scion of a powerful Marid and a beautiful elven woman, Ripple was seen as remarkable from childhood and famous before her twentieth birthday. She grew up in Fiera along the coast of the Fieran Sea where she received the finest education in the common and arcane.   By the age of 16 she was being pursued by the wealthiest and most successful merchants in the land, and she began to learn how to use her charm and beauty to manipulate these men and women into telling her things that they really shouldn't in order to gain influence and power. Quietly, over several years she used her contacts and power to become the most influential woman in Fiera, by her twenty first birthday her reputation had spread across the world so that there wasn't a city in which she wasn't known.   Until her twenty-first birthday she had been courted by many very wealthy people, many of whom had asked for her hand in marriage, to no avail. But, as her renown spread, the pool of powerful men and women interested in meeting her grew exponentially. Soon the king of Ziamid and the ruler of Izea were both seeking her company. Over a year or two in which war was almost declared multiple times between the two countries, the ruler of Izea was finally able to convince Ripple to make an extended visit to his court in order to woo her. Within a month of her arrival she was already the most powerful woman in Izea due to her proximity to the crown and her ability to charm nearly anyone without even trying. After two months of courting she demurely agreed to give her hand in marriage to the Izean ruler.   What followed was a wedding of global proportions that brought influential men and women from across the world to Izea. But, a mere three days after the wedding, the Izean ruler was murdered with no witnesses or suspects. As Ripple was entertaining some of the wedding guests at the time it was clear that she had no part in the crime. Ripple was heartbroken and chose to leave Izea to be away from the place that brought her so much pain. She moved back to Fiera and, after a mourning period, resumed her place in society.   Three years later, Ripple once again was being courted by one of the most powerful people on Kruos. The Madame Chancellor of Omath, Syndria Hozen, had convinced Ripple to come to Oma City and begun courting her in earnest soon thereafter. Things progressed and Ripple was once again headed towards marriage with a powerful person. Tragically, history repeated itself as less than a week after the couple was wed, her spouse was murdered by persons unknown. Ripple once again appeared blameless as she had an airtight alibi, but nonetheless the whispers began. Less than a month following her wife's death Ripple once again fled home to Fiera to be alone with her grief.   It was in Fiera that she met a humble young cobbler who was no more immune to Ripple's charm and beauty than anyone else she had ever met. Yet, the cobbler was not wealthy or powerful and didn't even attempt to court her, for he knew that he could never be her match. Yet, after all her fame, power, and tragedy, it was Ripple who decided to court that young man for he brought her something no other pursuer had, love without agenda. The legends say that the most desired woman in history faded into the background before her thirtieth year in blissful obscurity, and the world's loss of its brightest gem became that humble cobbler's gain.
