Circlet of Elements

The Circlet of Elements is the oldest known artifact of Kruos and its most valuable. Yet, it has been missing for over three hundred years...   The history of the circlet is a patchwork of recorded fact and legend, which makes for a wonderful story, but is prone to make scholars quite mad. The earliest recorded mention of the circlet is in the journals of Serine Jagrock, a close confidant of Brombek Bairn himself. In her journals, Jagrock claims that upon embarking on their trek through the barrier, Brombek was gifted the circlet by a powerful elemental who lived in Dalaein but who had come to peace with their situation and harbored little to no ill will towards the non-elementals that lived within the barrier with them. Brombek was given the circlet as a means for protecting the party from whatever they might find in the unexplored lands outside the barrier.   If and how the circlet was used on that original expedition is unknown as Serine stopped writing her journals shortly after the party arrived on Eishin and scholars presume she died before they reached the safety of the hot springs. It is not for another few hundred years before the circlet again appears in official writings. This time it was found in the possession of an Elding bard who came to Fiera. The bard sang tales of having acquired the artifact by stealing it from the horde of a particularly unobservant dragon. The bard was quite willing to allow scholars of the time to observe and interact with the circlet as he knew that none would so foolish as to steal from an Elding Bard.   It is unverifiable but widely accepted that the circlet was in the possession of the Eldings for several centuries and during that time it gained a significant reputation as they sang songs of its power and brilliance. It was some five hundred years later that word began to spread that someone had once again stolen the circlet and new songs were added to the bards' repertoire as they sang of the curse that would befall the creature that stole from an Elding Bard.   The bards still sang of it protective powers and its mastery over the elements, but the songs remained vague and so the exact powers of the circlet are unknown.   From that point on the history of the artifact becomes significantly murkier. Rumors spread about it being in the possession of various crime lords, in the hidden vaults of kings, and even back with the aforementioned dragon from which it had been taken before. It was many centuries later when the stories claim that it had once again surfaced, in the possession of a powerful wizard who had, as wizards are wont to do, become a recluse and taken the magical artifacts in his possession and built a remote tower in which to study them uninterrupted. The men who built the tower and assisted the wizard in relocating there are said to have seen the circlet and from them the rumors spread.   Since that sighting the circlet has not been seen again, in official report or rumor and its not known what became of it. That was over three hundred years ago and surely that wizard is long dead, but the location of his tower is mysteriously unknown and, if the circlet is there then it may never be found.
