Belvalor Hawn Character in Kruos | World Anvil

Belvalor Hawn

Belvalor Hawn, a half-elven ship captain from Barriholm is sometimes called the "Hero of the Elding Isles" for helming the crew that took out the infamous pirate Aldreth Deathbringer (this was clearly not his given name, I mean...c'mon.) The pirate terrorized ships, boats, and seaside villages throughout the Elding Isles for years before Belvalor put a stop to the raids by killing Deathbringer and commandeering his ship, the Void Squall. Hawn and his crew were lauded in the isles and since their victory they haven't paid a dock fee or a bar tab again when they have visited.   On the surface, Belvalor's tale is one of the underdog stepping up to save the innocent from an evil menance, yet he and his boat, the Sunfish, were unknown in the isles to that point and if one asked around in the ports of Barriholm its unlikely that any sailors there could quite recall hearing of Hawn and his crew before they put an end to Deathbringer. Unbeknownst to all but a few, this was because Belvalor was actually a member of Deathbringer's crew up until just before his "victory."   In truth, the Sunfish was a vessel that Deathbringer and crew had attacked and stolen just prior to his demise. A small crew, including Belvalor, were sent to sail the ship back to the pirates' lair hidden on the Barriholm coast. Belvalor and his crewmates seized upon an undercrewed and unsuspecting Void Squall to fire the already loaded but unfired cannons from the deck of the newly commandeered Sunfish. They hit the Void Squall broadside and managed to start a fire in the powder room which had the expected effect of blowing the Void Squall and its crew up in a massive explosion. The suddenly elevated crew swore to never speak of their freebooting pasts and to claim credit for ending the scourge of Deathbringer. They chose to elevate Belvalor to the role of Captain as he had the most experience and was the one they most feared would rat them out.   To this day, Belvalor Hawn is considered a hero by all those who have heard of him, save for the few who know his dark secrets.
