Cambria

Demographics

Cambria is entirely human with 70% of the population being above the ‘Wealth line’. Anybody above this line is considered wealthy and anybody under it is considered poor.

Government

Different quarters of the city are ran by different people. The royal quarter is ran by the King, the Rynal quarter is ran by the Duke, the Bridgek quarter is ran by the baron of Bridgek etc.

Defences

Many walls surrounded major quarters of the city during the medieval period, like the aforementioned walls of Rynal. Towers and forts surround the city to protect from raids and other attacking countries. During the civil war, anti-air guns were placed atop every tower and down below. As well as this, the Duchy of Cambria made a defensive line completely surrounding them to keep the Fascists out.

Industry & Trade

Cambria lies on the banks of the River Cam. Traders and merchants primarily used the port of Vocster on the North part of the River in order to keep the flow of goods close to Cambria City where Kristom palace is. The major Port for Rynal was created in the 16th century and is called Sinta Tagra. From here, traders join the High Road from Vocster down to Bridgek in the more central location of the Metropolitan area. The River Cam flows down to Fernopolis-another major city- and back in the day it was the gateway to the west as its source was in the West Kristomia Mountains. Cambria is famous for its fresh herbs and vegetables that are grown and handpicked in the lush Cam Valley to the west. During the 20th Century, Cambria imported everything from across the globe in order to cater for its citizens.

Infrastructure

The most striking feature about Cambria is Kristom Palace-home of the monarch. Made out of stone, it’s four towers intimidate the people of Cambria and show how great the Monarch is.Another great infrastructure feat are the walls of Rynal in the Rynal quarter-Home of the Duke of Cambria. these walls are heavily defended and stop  any besieges becoming successful. In recent years, one of the most famous examples of Cambrian infrastructure is the Tower of Glass. Unveiled after the 1951 world fair in Cambria, this 8,048 ft tower is made of a selection of cement and glass. The famous glass elevator pods that spiral around the tower is a feat to behold and is a major tourist attraction and landmark.

Assets

As mentioned in my article about the Old Kingdom of Kristom, the Lossof das Cambria holds the royal treasury and was the worlds first bank. However, during the Industrial revolution of the 19th century and the subsequent population boom that went with it, another major storage facility popped up nearby. The Amazonas was finished in 1819 CE and turned Rynal from a historic town to the main Industrial center of Cambria. As the facility grew, more and more suburbs were built to house the families of the workers and brought more revenue and tourists to the city. During the Kristomian civil war of the 1990’s and 2000’s, the Amazonas housed civilians sheltering from the bombs of the Fascists above.

Guilds and Factions

Since the Parliamentary act of 1886, Cambrians have stuck to their roots of being faithful to the Monarchy and the Feudal System despite being abolished after the Parliamentary act. Hence, the majority of voters choose to stay Conservative and democratic. In the General election of 1987 (You'll find out why this was key soon) the Cambrians chose the more democratic Tagra Modd over the liberal, Fascist and favorite Cerce Blartum-the man who installed Grand Kristomia.

History

On the 20th Fernoap 0 BF Cambria and the Old Kingdom of Kristom were founded. In the museum of Kristomia in Aldwich, Brumali you can find the very piece of decayed wood that Fernus the Great engraved a cross into to symbolise the founding of a nation. Fernus' settlers settled down in a vast jungle where Cambria was. The city grew over time under the rule of different monarchs until the outbreak of the Civil War when the city was nearly completely destroyed during the 4 battles that took place in the boundaries of the Duchy of Kristomia. It was officialy abandoned and deserted on the 25th of June (or Seproap) 2007 on the orders of John Freeth.

Architecture

The architecture of Cambria depends on social class or Quarter/district of the city. For example, Poor people may have grey or white walls and roofs where as the Rich have a variety of different colours-mainly orange and Green to symbolise wealth-adorning their houses. The people of Viner and Merstow usually have roofs of slate and marble due to the nearby Quarry and the people of the Southern quarter of Dafiel-infamous for it slums and poverty-have wooden houses held up by Motte and Bailey.

Geography

Cambria was originally all jungle as recorded in 'Te orgonn Ferkk'-the first Kristomian book about Geography. As the city grew and more trees were cut down, the Geography drastically. The River Cam flows through the city from its source in the West Kristomian mountains to the Strait of Fernopolis. To the South lies the Fernopila desert which stretches through the Province of Fernopila. To the West is the famous Cam valley of Ballshier which holds fertile land perfect for animal agriculture and harvests. To the North are the Great Lenchia Plains which spread up to Lencher and to the East is the Common forest and 40 miles from there are the Kriss-Stratt Mountains which serve as the border between Kristom and Strato.

Natural Resources

Fertile land spreads across the west of Cambria in the form of the Cam valley up to Soviena where herbs and vegetables are grown and harvested before being shipped down the River to Vocster. The largest quarry in South-West Kristom is situated in the Viner and Merstow Quarter and serves as the main source of income and District revenue in the Quarter. To the South is the Fernopila desert which was found to home oil in the 1970's. The Capitallia Council takes 35% of the income that comes from the unique tax service of the extraction site while the Fernopila Council takes 65%. The money the council gets from the Oil is then shared equally between the councils of each Quarter.
