Slotchshroom

A edible mushroom that grows in the floor of mines, in the mix of water, mud, and pulverized stone known as Slotch.

Basic Information

Anatomy

This mushroom has a wide cap and an average sized stem. Usually the color of whatever minerals are in the water. Different minerals give slotchshroom different characteristics.

Biological Traits

Different minerals have different effects. Iron is noted to make the Mushroom larger and tougher to break. Copper gives it a copper tint and is said to have a small spice to it. Stone gives is Slotchshroom in it's "normal: state. Some particles of gems have been noticed to have profound effects, giving the slotchshroom brilliant colors and wild tastes.

Reproduces using fungi spores.

Growth Rate & Stages

Grows to maturity in about 2 days. Begins as a spore, then gestates into hyphae. Two or more hyphae meet and form mycelium, this is the beginning of a mushroom. The mycelium then grows into a hyphal knot, a small bump that is the beginning of a cap. The next stage is called the primordia, which is a small mushroom that is not yet reached maturity. The final stage is maturity where the mushroom releases spores again.

Ecology and Habitats

A cool damp environment, generally in the bottom of a cave, in a pool of water with minerals in it. Slotchshroom feeds off of the minerals and bacteria in the water. Slotchshroom can be grown and controlled in farms to produce the exact slotchshroom one desires.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Needs, water, some type of minerals, and bacteria. Sunlight is not required and actually discouraged, it can dampen growth in the slotchshroom.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Can be harvested and used in stews. Different minerals can bring out different tastes, however it is usually a bland mushroom that takes on the taste of what it is cooked in. Used by miners trapper underground as a food source.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Found in the bottom of caves growing in murky water.
