St. Bren

St. Bren is the only city in Samayaris where the Church and Cults live in peace together.   Important Buildings and shops:   GraGrub's Building of Good Grub and Sleep   This is the largest inn in town and is the hub of local activity. The food and drink here is reknowned throughout the area. The owner and chef, GraGrub, is the only Orc in town, and is well respected by the townfolk.   Olden Tree Market   A street market district centered around the Moon-Tree of Achaeral. Many local craftsmen come to trade here.   Igatake's General Goods   A small, but historic, shop off of the Olden Tree Market owned by a descendant of a famed elven warrior. Igatake now sells various general goods to the townsfolk.   Niwarri's Magical Emporium   Niwarri moved to St. Bren after graduating from the Logaris Academy in Gnona. She mostly sells alchemical potions and enchanted trinkets.   Society of the Tree-Dwarves   This small building houses the cities only Halfling family, the Hammertoes. While the building itself is little more than a historic family manor, at one time the city believed that the Hammertoe family was burrowing a tunnel to connect Acheia to the Dwarven Underdeep highways in an attempt to help the dwarves invade the elven forest. Thus the name "Tree-Dwarves" stuck, and the Hammertoes have officially adopted the name as a town joke.   Monument to the Moon Goddess   At the center of town lies a massive 50ft tall statue made of Ivory and Ironbark. The statue was paid for by Crucifer Tiberius Sellic after the city agreed to join with the Church in 469e3 as a gesture of goodwill. The monument depicts Achaeral extending a treaty of peace, with the signature of St. Alaena visible in gilded letters.   Misha's Stables   Misha is a world-reknown breeder of elven horses. Her stallions are thought to be some of the best in the world, and some swear that she weaves magic into their flesh from the womb.   The House of Peace   The House of Peace is the center of government in St. Bren. Inside, the city council, which is composed of both cultists and Church members, meet together to discuss policies and plans for the city. This is also where disputes are brought before the council to be decided upon.   Durza's Armory   Durza is a local blacksmith that makes some of the strongest steel in all of Samayaris. She has a secret technique whereby she magically infuses ironbark with Adamantine. The resulting alloy is nearly unbreakable and holds an edge almost indefinitely. Unfortunately for would-be adventurers, Durza's "Armory" only consists of farming equipment, as Durza herself holds a "swords into plowshares" mentality.   The Savvy Shaman   This small building houses one of Samayaris's most famous healer. For some months now, however, she has not been seen, and the shop remains abandoned.   Achaeral's Standing Stones   These stones are said to have been carved out of the earth by Achaeral herself, as a ward of protection over the city.   The Hall of Mirth   The Hall of Mirth is a festival hall where priests and priestesses of Achaeral perform rituals and ceremonies of "joy". There's dancing, drinking, and other more sultry activities in this place. The Hall is often referred to as the "school" of Achaeral: a place where initiates and long-time followers alike go to learn the ways of the Moon-goddess.   The House of Ayghadyt   The Ayghadyt clan has only been in St. Bren for the past twenty years or so, but they have made a huge impact. They have a monopoly on the slave trade in the city, and have made their fortune selling the poor into bondage all across Samayaris. While slavery is officially condemned by the Church, many Presbyters and Eldars have been willing to turn a blind eye to such things if it means cheap labor for their ever expanding grasp on Samayaris.   MIyawa's Longhouse   Priestess Miyawa is the priestess of Achaeral, and her long house is the place many in the city go to receive "revelations" from the Moon-Goddess.   Duosavresh Farms   The Duosavresh family is a foreign Human family that grows various hallucinogenic drugs, as well as various plants used in the production of ale and wine. They are one of the primary suppliers of such things in Samayaris.   The Temple of Achaeral   This temple is dedicated to the Moon-goddess. While most religious activities actually take place in the Hall of Mirth adn the Priestess's Longhouse, the temple is a place for serious worshippers to admire the beauty of the Lady of the Forest's domain.   The Sanctum   St. Bren's Sanctum is connected to Achaeral's temple. While worship of the Moon-goddess is overwhelmingly predominant in St. Bren, the Sanctum has a modest group of faithful who would like to see the faith grow in their city.

Demographics

Majority Elves (50%), with a significant Human Minority (30%). The rest are a mix of Nagajii, Orc, and halfling residents.

Government

St. Bren is governed by a council of seven Aldermen. Four of the seven are always from the cult of Achaeral in the city, and are elected by clergy of the cult. The other three are representatives from the Sanctum in St. Bren. Together, they vote on policies and law. They also serve as mediators in legal disputes.

Defences

The city is protected by Ironbark walls, 20ft. high all around the city. The city also has an elite elven guard, the Nightwatch, who patrol the fences and gates.

Infrastructure

A sophisticated sewer system runs underneath the city. There is also an exquisite underground aqueduct that runs from the Udari River, built by the Hammertoe family.
