Liber Odio
The Liber Odio or the Book of Hatred is a mysterious and dangerous religious text believed to belong to the Order of Calamity, worshipers of the Underlords, primarily Heirrath. The text itself is banned across Korrisia, and those who are found in possession of it, quote from it, attempt to re-create it in any way, or have any other reasonable connection to the text are arrested and burned as a practitioner of the Dark Arts.
It is believed that a legitimate copy of the Liber Odio must be written in the ink of celestial being, or that of a strong good-aligned creature with similarly the text itself bound in leather made of a good-aligned being. There are only a few copies that are kept within the walls of institutions, with two copies kept in the Calemdar College of Magic, studied by the Light Order and the Amethyst Order. It has been rumored that the members of the Light Order keep the book locked away after an incident in which three Light wizards were driven insane and mutilated themselves.
Purpose
The purpose behind the Liber Odio is to bring the knowledge and teachings of the Underlords to those who serve them. When someone, fully devoted to the Underlords reads from this book, they are enlightened to the "deep truth" that Kormund was wronged by his evil brother, Garenthar, and that Garenthar is the betrayer god. The Prime Deities are all propogating this truth and keep the so-called "Betrayer Gods" from correcting the terrible evils done upon Korrisia, and that the Prime Deities have altered history to vilify Kormund and his Underlords.
No one is sure why Heirrath created such a document, some believe it is that she knew the Prime Deities would find her and lock her away, and that her hope for salvation was with mortals, those who could eventually discover the truth and forsake their false gods.
Historical Details
Public Reaction
There have only been a few documented instances in which a Liber Odio was discovered in Korrisia. Each time the book was found, great tragedy followed in its wake. One such example is that the Liber Odio was discovered in the City of Amana in the Drangan Tier of the Empire in Year 2, Era of the Tyrant. Imperial Blackcloaks and the Steward of Protection (Helm) were forced to quarantine off an entire section of the city, as several hundreds of the citizens had gone mad, mutilating each other and their own bodies, carving their eyes from their skulls, sewing mouths shut, attacking all in sight. The Steward eventually ordered the pacification of the entire population in the quarantine, and set the entire quarter ablaze. The copy of the Liber Odio was discovered and immediately disintegrated by an Imperial Blackcloak, who killed himself several days later with the same spell.
There have been many "prank" copies created by fools and idiots, but public panic generally accompanies this. Any fear that the Liber Odio is in a location is met with fear and chaos, as individuals believe that the same fate will befall them as the Amana Pacification.
There is a small population, however, that cannot help but be overpowered by their innate curiosity or cruelty, and believe the text will empower them to achieve their goals. Those who believe the gods have abandoned them or brought sorrow to their lives are perfect candidates to utilize the evil text should it be discovered.
