Dalawang Buwan Festival: Two Moons Festival

History

For as long as there has been civilization and even before then the reverence of the Two Moons crossing paths has been observed in one way or another.

This event has been mainly seen as a good omen as the increased tides and brighter nights leading up to the event have brought a bountiful harvest of many types of ocean life.

Furthermore, once the moons have fully enveloped each other it creates a halo effect that is believed to bring good weather. This has been widely accepted as fact as there have not been any major weather realated events dating back at least three centuries.

Execution

Dalawang Buwan Festival is celebrated by feasting, competitions, dancing and a veriety of methods.

One of the most popular events is the Ivegers: Diving Lizards competition where at the moment of the two moons crossing everyone sends their pet out to gather the largest of the turtle eggs. They only have roughly an hour or so before the event ends. The time limit is set by the movement of the moons. The moment the halo effect ends. The winners are determined.
Due to the increased tide size the large sea turtles of the area have an increased spawning season. This is what is believed to have started this practice.

During the event trained divers carfully montior the spawning grounds to verify that no cheating happens. Anyone who is cought cheating, not only loses the abiltiy to compete in the next festival but also has the title of egg thief and is reffered to by that name until then.

Components and tools

Due to the popularity of the Ivegers: Diving Lizards challenge it has almost become manditory to come dressed with either a two moons mask or a diving lizard mask.

Those compeing in the competion often dye their outfits to match the coloring of their Ivegers.

A small fee is given to compet,e with the total sum going to the winner.

Participants

Anyone can participate in the event provided that they are not labled an egg thief.

Judges and refferees are normally leaders in the communtity and previous winners.

After the event the nations aspiring top cullinarians have the opportity to raise in the ranks by cooking the winner a dish using the prized turtle eggs. The lizard king will pick his top three favorite dishes and they will increase in their standing accordingly.

Observance

Outside of the egg race. It is common to ask the past souls to bless the next cycle with abundance and wish the new souls to the void a safe trip.

Common belief is that the halo the two moons form is bridge to the void where the souls rest and wait for their next awakening
