Stobon
Stobon is an old city located at the mouth of the Winterrun river, which runs through the southern lavafields of Hesperia. It is a city in two parts, roughly known as Over Run and Under Run. Over Run, set high above the river, is a wealthy district of landed gentry and merchant barons. Under Run, set much lower on the opposite bank, is home to the city's many sailors, warehouse workers, and other laborers. Greytower, the oldest building in the city and a neighborhood unto itself, bridges the gap between them. Other neighborhoods include Barreldowns, the dock district; Priestwalk, a neighborhood of temples and churches, and Markey Square, an extremely opulent trading center.
Demographics
Mostly human and half-elf, but with a sizeable population of halflings and dwarves as well. In Barreldowns, you'll find sailors and people from all over the world.
Government
Stobon is ruled by Queen Hjurka, a woman of ancient lineage. However, like all Free States, it also has a governing Parliament that can write and veto laws.
Defences
The royal guard is stationed in force at Stobon Keep, and also in the upper and lower levels of Greytower. Two contingents patrol the city at all times.
Industry & Trade
Stobon was founded as a fishing town, and fish still provides a way of life to many of those in Under Run. Many citizens work as sailors, and some have begun to learn the art of caravaneering. Most of those that live in Over Run have made a fortune in trade, while others come from long, noble lineages.
Infrastructure
Stobon has a thriving mercantile community, especially of exotic goods from overseas. The newest addition to the town is the clockwork carriage. It will soon connect those tradegoods to the larger cities inland, and bring even greater financial success to the city.
Assets
Valuable tradegoods can be found in well-guarded storerooms in Barreldowns. When the caravan begins running, the station is also likely to become a temporary repository of valuable goods.

History
In ancient time, Stobon made its wealth from the sea, both by fishing its abundant resources and by launching raids up and down the coast. During the Serpent War, it did not face much immediate risk, but still deployed its navy in defense of the human realms. In the aftermath, it became a major mercantile hub, and the new clockwork caravan is sure to drive even more profit.
Architecture
The stone part of the city is made from rounded gray gneiss, cobbled together into large and luxurious houses. Down below, the houses are made of wood, thatch, and mud. Many of the permanent residences in Barreldowns are actually floating on the water.
Geography
Stobon is surrounded for miles by seemingly barren lavafields, which give way to a glacier-covered range of volcanic mountains. A fertile stripe of green follows the Winterrun through this twilit land, culminating in the colorful grandiosity of Stobon. The vast Nisceac Ocean to the south bears travelers from many distant lands.
Natural Resources
Although the earliest settlers of Stobon were attracted by the abundant fish and crab and the plentiful farmland afforded by the Winterrun, Stobon's chief resources are currently its mercantile goods, as it has become a gateway to the peoples of Tyanzaru.
