The Journal of Nornas Quiwen
Nornas Quiwen's expedition is why I advise all of you VERY STRONGLY to not take work involving the hunting of lost cities. I'm sure Ishmael Tenebris has something to do with his journals being "found," even if I cant prove it.— Jasper Cameron, Leader of the Bronze Ravens
Selected excerpts from the Expedition Journals of Nornas Quiwen, volume 4
- ... have found it. I'm sure of it this time. the entrance to the lost city in the Myrdhor. Who knows what ancient secrets it holds.
- The scrolls weren't quite correct, or else the stars have moved. But we finally found the rocky crag as described in the scroll I found at the Library in Rainchurch. I sent back a group for more supplies and to hire more hands to help with the dig. I dont know how long it will take, but we will reach the city proper.
- 23 days of digging and all we have to show for it is 9 corpses, 2 missing workers, and part of a statue head. Looking at it it is definitely of a fiendish creature, but not one that i recognize. I have loaded it on a cart, surely someone back at the college will recognize it.
- Another 2 people missing last night. I thought our perimeter was well guarded, but apparently the "best available" guards was the mercenary companies way of pawning their useless people off on me.
- Success, we have uncovered a tunnel entrance, just as the sun is setting. Tomorrow we shall start to explore the cave. Tonight I will have one of our cartographers transcribe our map into my journal so that I may make my own notations.
- 2 days of exploring the tunnels and Caverns. This place is remarkable. Still haven't found a language that i recognize, but I am taking rubbings of everything. The architecture that we have seen is definitely inspired by demons and their ilk. Several of those on the expedition with me are more faint of heart than I, refusing to enter after the 1st day. They claim this place is cursed and that we should bury it back up, all because we have lost some people to sickness or the desert.
- I dont know how long I have been lost down here. I only have 2 candles left. Some...thing, came in the night. At first it was just the disappearances, and the occasional tomb sickness. Then we started finding the blood. What it was and how it was sneaking past our sentries we dont know. Then, as we were headed back to the surface one day we heard the sounds of battle, and the screams. When the first head flew by me, poor Ninnia, I broke, I turned and ran, back into the tunnels. I could hear something pursuing me. The scrape of something hard across stone, like a dragging pick. I swear I have passes places where other members fell, but the bodies are no longer there. I hope I find my way back to the entrance soon.
