If I teach you nothing else, remember, if a dwarf tells you something will be fun, you should either be very desperate, or very absent.— Jasper Cameron, Leader of the Bronze Ravens
Design notes of Torgran Broadbeard
Needed a faster way to traverse the desert, dragons can fly, and they weigh tons, no reason a dwarf cant
strapping wings to arms unsuccessful, may take Gwenlynn's advice and start with small scale models
tired 4 different models, discarded idea of bee/dragonfly/sprite wings, cant figure out how to make them beat fast enough.
have really enjoyed
playing with testing the vulture, dragon, and butterfly scale models.
now have 5 models that can successfully glide across the forge will move to full scale testing once the construction is complete.
Design Notes of Melmir Broadbeard
Fun fact, turns out the most important part of flying is actually landing. I will take my uncles lesson to heart. Back to scale models
Using eggs to simulate the dwarf the wing will carry is messy, will ask the beekeepers about availability of honeycomb
honeycomb re-usable and easier to clean up, beekeepers helping with testing models
after 2 months still no successful tests, honeycomb or wing always destroyed on landing
larger wings lead to slower gliding. initial testing promising
Design Notes of Gwenlynn Mellowmead
Tried to tell Melmir steering is important. larger wing successfully glided father than expected. recovery from
Harpoon Cactus patch will need to be done carefully.
Landing still appears to be an issue, also the need to jump off a cliff is a bit of a problem, at least if one wants to make a return journey on the wing instead of walking back
had a breakthrough thanks to a group of visiting elfs. dont know what holiday it was but they made this lanterns that floated away through the air using just a candle.
going with more of a fold-able dragon style wing around a central platform
wooden platform bad idea, need to figure out wing release mechanism
platform on top or platform on bottom?
have working prototypes for platform on top and platform on bottom. landing harness seems to work, had 1 egg in 5 survive
eggs now survive landing in nearly 7 of every 10 tests. on to full scale tests
with addition of platform have added in rudimentary steering linked with mechanism that shifts from float bladder to wing.
ONLY LAUNCH WHEN WIND IS NOT TOWARDS MOUNTAINS!!!
First successful return of a wing lent to a
desperate adventurer helpful fruit gatherer. CELEBRATION TONIGHT! (see, i knew 17th time was the charm.)
I had a good chuckle with this article. I really liked how it describes the object using just its story from a single person point of view. It is a device I didn't think of using before and I enjoyed it a lot, neat work! In case you want to check it, I featured this article in my reading challenge :)

Thank you and I am glad that you enjoyed the article. I wish I had some drawing to add to the article, maybe a project for later dates, as I slowly start to dabble more in the article art part of things.
