Not exactly a desert

Inhabitable is a strong word. I don't think this world deserves it. I mean, yes, you can breath, and other places where things can't try to kill you are considered inhabitable, so, why not, right? Well, for one, I don't think we should call inhabitable the places where we aren't welcomed. Or those where we are considered food. Call me lazy—everybody does—but I don't see the point in fighting for your life in a place where some other creature was quite happy before you show up.   Besides, there is not water in that world. Or anything you can use to build a proper shelter. No treasures, if that's your thing; at least, nothing you couldn't find somewhere else. Nor some sort of creature that make the whole thing easier. There is nothing but the trees, the useless rocks and the freaking killer worms.   Once in a while some stupid wizard goes there to explore or to kill the trees in order to get a bit of salve. It sounds ridiculous but they think they are clever because it seems easy. They travel in with magic, make sure there are no big worms around, and get whatever they are looking for. Once they have it, or if they meet a dangerous worm, they simply say the magic word, and they are back in their cozy homes, right? Not necessarily! Turns out that there are areas in that world where you cannot use traveling magic.
