The Royal Portrait of Alodia Clearstone
18 October 422 CE
Spooktober 2022, Prompt 01: Portrait
The Royal Portrait of Alodia Clearstone was the painting of Queen Alodia Clearstone commissioned by her new husband King Faramund Clearstone of Ecarus shortly after their marriage. The portrait was commissioned days after her coronation as Queen Consort. It was painted over the course of a month — from the first of October to the first of November — in 416 CE. The painting was destroyed with the rest of Queen Alodia's possessions on 20 October 422 CE — two days after the throne of Ecarus was usurped and King Faramund killed.
Commission
The portrait was painted by the famous artist Lawrence Haye for a hefty sum of 75 Flor. Haye was initially offered only 50 Flor, but he insisted on being compensated an additional 25 Flor for the materials used, which included gold leaf and ultramarine.
The painting was completed in only a month. The time frame was astonishing to many of Haye's peers, and is largely regarded as a move to show off his skill. Haye was assisted by only two apprentices during the entire painting process, which only amplified the shock when the painting was finalized on the first of November 416 CE.
