Anghela of Mona
Most Serene Doge De Moreno
Anghela De Moreno (/'angɛla de 'morɛno/) of Mona was the first and only female Doge of Mona. Born an only child to a family of minor merchants in Mona, she managed to climb her way through the ranks and masterfully controlled the system to earn herself the title of Doge.
Physical Description
Body Features
Not a massive amount was known about Anghela's appearance other than that she, she was rather unassuming, physically. Being somewhat short and of average build. She also lacked the noble facial features common in the wealthy families of Toriano, through by no means was she truly 'ugly'.
Apparel & Accessories
Most depictions of Anghela show her wearing fine clothing, arguably to make up for her rather chronically non-noteworthy appearance. She preferred positively beautiful dresses, much of it expensive silk brought over from distant foreign lands. It could even be said that she started the grand Monan tradition of eccentrically grandiose fashion.

Personal history
Anghela was born as the only child to a minor noble family in Mona. While she was an only child, and her father would die soon after her childhood, she managed secure a fine marriage with a considerably wealthier house, the Sagrados, with the help of her mother. This was unconventional, as torian marriage was, and still often is, organized by the fathers of both children. This was an exception however, as the two met independently of their parents. Still, with a liberal reading of marriage laws, Anghela de Moreno and Adalo Sagrado were able to marry on good terms with each other's families, and they worked as an excellent duo to expand their wealth and prominence.
The two would become known for their shrewdness and intelligence, dutifully governing the parts of the city owned by the Sagrado family.
This worked miracles, and eventually the two produced a child, who would eventually become the "Doge" of Mona. Unfortunately Adalo would die of an injury just a few months before the Doge, leaving Anghela heartbroken yet determined. When the fourth Doge of Mona died in 4706, she saw this as a golden opportunity to elect her child as the patriarch, as there were no formal laws at the time saying that this was unacceptable. Since a child too young to speak at the time obviously couldn't be trusted to elect, she would be expected to be his regent, as his mother.
Through generous bribes to her own family, the baby was chosen to be the patriarch of the Sagrado family. Obviously, all of the families collectively agreed that having a baby as Doge would be absurd, most knew that instead his mother would rule in his stead. Thankfully, she was enormously popular, becoming very savvy while working with her husband, and becoming loved by many of the other families. Even many who saw through her scheme were kindly bribed by the ducats she still earned from the large portions of the city she ruled in her son's stead.
Despite the absurdity of the scheme, she managed to be dubbed the first and only ever Doge-Regent in the name of her child until he turned fourteen, the age of adulthood in the Torian peninsula where the city of Mona lies. She reigned well for fourteen years, just as she was expected to. Despite the relatively short time, she still introduced many of the cities finer traditions and brought immense wealth. Although her son was inept to say the least, her legacy was almost entirely positive, if slightly romanticized.
Her impact on Mona cannot be understated, and even today statues of her still cover the city, and her story inspires many merchants to increase their ambitions.
Though she was never officially titled 'Doge' during her reign, she was given the title posthumously by both the lower and upper class as a show of appreciation. Since this, laws have been established preventing infants from becoming the Doge.
