Observance
In many smaller communities that do not have the resources to record exact dates of birth, or cases where, because of circumstances, it is impossible to know the exact date of someone's birth, this is the date that is used to advance those people's age. Those who celebrate their birthday on this date are expected to wear an orange stone, painted or natural, around their neck on a chain. Strangers are encouraged to gift them with small trinkets and coins.
It is also a day where the life force is strongest, and so is viewed as a day to celebrate and consider one's Dhul. It is common for people to consult seers about how to best act in the coming year.
